Was up at 5.21 every morning since i got here. Iv come to call it stupid o clock, jet lag really takes its toll on you!! On tuesday we all hoped on a bus to go on our first surfing lesson on this really secluded beach about a half hour from sydney. The bus drivers name was Jai and he was what i always expected the typical australian to be like. He seemed to be constantly stoned but he wasnt-he was just your typical surfer dude! First lesson of the day was auzzie lingo so the word awsome mentioned a lot. Awsome means brilliant Brilliant means sick And sick means awsome!!! We were surfing for about 5 hours and my got does it take it out of you. Its 2 days later and im still in ... read more

Travling by plane..........very very tiring!!!! We left portlaoise at 11.30am on friday and arrived in sydney at 7am on sunday australia time ( about 10pm saturday at home ). We flew from dublin to heathrow first, took a while to get through security there, was kinda weird because since we were going from london to singapore we were going through the security for people going to that general area ( hong kong, thailand etc ) Everyone was either asian and wearing turbans- i didnt fit it - haha. Got on the plane a few hours later for singapore, 12 hour flight to there. The flight was ok, on long haul flights you get free beer and your own little tv to watch movies and tv on. Really good at passing the time. Was pretty comfortable except ... read more

So flights all booked so its definetly happening now!!! SCARY!! Spent a while looking for flights and ended up getting the best deal on www.edreams.com ! The cheapest flights were €540 with Air Asia from London heathrow ( flights to london €25 with Ryan air to stansted or €50 with Aer lingus to heathrow) but i have read only OK reports about them so we ended up paying €650 each to go with Singapore airlines leaving directly from Dublin! They seem much friendlier and comfortable from what iv read on the net but only time will tell i guess. Travel time ----27 and a half hours!! Sounds horrible. 2 stopovers, 1 in london for 3 hours and Singapore for 2 hours! I can see us being fit to kill each other when we arrive and wanting ... read more

So after a bit of organising and getting all our info together ( Companies to use / use bus tours or rent a camper etc ) we have moved our leaving date closer from Feb 2010 to October 2009. We are aiming to look at the second or third week of october to head off. After some research it turns out that renting a camper van and driving through Eastern Oz works out a few thousand euro cheaper than using oz experience so looks like we will be using a camper instead. The best value that i can find on the net is wicked campers www.wickedcampers.com/au They design your van the way you want. Should be fun :) Iv also found that you can save about 200-300 euro leaving from london for australia rather than dublin ... read more

Hey all, So iv been trying to find a blog or book or something to help with both what to do and expect traveling to oz for a year and also the prep work thats involved. After spending what seems like 20 years trying to get the info i wanted i have decided to create my own blog as both a record of what was decided on and to maybe help people with their plans. Ok so from the beginning............... After meeting my girlfriend Melissa ( most beautiful woman in the world ;) ) about a year ago i was in the process of buying my first house. Once finalised and all the hassle of a mortgage we were talking about things we wished we had done and would like to do. I mentioned that i ... read more
