Date May 7, 8, 9, & 10 Quotations: The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach - waiting for a gift from the sea. Anne Morrow LindberghThe cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea. Isak Dinesen Battle Row Campground was chosen as our destination because of its proximity to Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, the home of Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the U.S. At the time of our visit, the home was closed to visitors due to restoration e... read more

Nickerson Beach, Long Island, NY. We spent several day in Long Beach, NY. When Kel was in High School she and her family went to Point Lookout on vacation, the next town, somehow everything seems to have gotten much smaller!? We drove to Jones Beach and biked for a while on a nice trail, an interesting but congested area...even in early May.... read more

Gateway National Recreation Area This maybe one of the most strangest places we have camped at. It is the only National Park, within a city, in the country. it is the only campground in New York City. It was the first airport in New York City, now you need to Google Floyd Bennett Airport. We camped on one of the runways, they had no hook-ups, but our RV is self sufficient. This morning we biked to Coney Island...the bike trail runs next to the parkway then out to the ocean. It was about 8 miles each way. Bob enjoyed a hot dog at Nathan's and Kel had a yummy lobster roll. When we returned, we had a history tour of the first Airport in NY ...Bennett Field, with the Ranger. It was excellent.... read more

. We started off to visit a museum. While taking the bus uptown, we started talking to a gal dressed as a volunteer for Central Park. She invited us to join her group on a tour of the history of Central Park. The day was lovely...so we opted to walk along the trails in the park learning about its origin. It was very interesting. We have always walked the southern end of the park, so the north end was an empty slate. We suggest that you Google Central Park. It is a beautiful place! Our guide was well informed. For the return to NJ, we walked to the subway then walked to the New Jeresy Path( subway). We certainly have been walking! This morning we biked to the PATH and secured them with locks This made ... read more

Today is our day to go to the Metropolitan Museum. We have different tastes...so we decided to go our own way...Bob to see Arms and Armor with the display of Japanese armor and swords. Kel decided to take a docent led tour of pre-impressionist, Impressionist, and post Impressionist art work. The docent was excellent and she enjoyed her time. We decided to met at a cafe in the museum. However the cafe was closed for a special group luncheon. How to communicate with Bob in a museum with no cell phone reception? It got tricky for a while ...but we found each other eventually. The best laid plans... Back to the bus and the train and "home"in NJ.... read more

We spent several hours viewing the art work ..including an artist from Iran, who created cut lovely mirrored sculptures. Then after a short walk in Central Park, we took the bus to the PATH and walked the rest of the way "home". Lots of walking! Sorry it has been awhile since we sent out our Blog.... read more

We walked the Brooklyn Bridge, in the PM, it was a bit of a mistake to do it on a beautful Sunday afternoon, but it was worth it. One lane is for bikes and the other is for about a million people walking...all with a purpose and with banners. We rewarded ourself by going to the best pizza place in Brooklyn. But every pizza parlor is number one?? This day we walked about 8 miles!!... read more
