Well that's it after a round trip of just under 26,000 miles in 26 days we arrived home safe and sound but extremely tired after the last leg from Honolulu to home via Los Angeles and Newark. Our round the world journey took in 10 diferent stops, some unforgettable, some not so, some fleeting and some with a bit of time to enjoy, but we have enjoyed ourselves and made some new friends. Who knows we might do it all again in another 25 years. We hope you enjoyed our blogs and that you saw and heard about places that you might one day want to visit and on that note we say farewell.... read more

North America April 27th 2010

As the sun sets on another cruise, thoughts turn to important things like where and when can we cruise again and yes they cover everything on board with a loyalty ambassador to help you book another cruise whilst you are still sampling the delights of the one you are on. Everything is packed apart from the clothes you stand in as all suitcases are collected the night before you leave the ship ready for your collection as you leave the ship. As you can imagine you are talking about a minimum of 2,000 pieces of luggage to off-load prior to the loading another 2,000 pieces for the next cruise all in the space of 6hours a logistical nightmare. Whilst we are sad to leave there are some crew members who seem to be glad to see ... read more

Oceania April 26th 2010

Well things cruise wise are drawing near as we say hello from the Aloha State and the Hawaiian island of Maui and civilisation, although the French Polynesian’s might take exception to this. Maui is reportedly one of the most expensive places in the world to buy property and from the look of some of the homes and the views they have you can understand why. This is our last port of call before we hit the bright city lights of Honolulu and the beach district known as Waikiki, so whilst we say civilisation this is the last place to enjoy the peaceful and slower way of life which has been the mode since we boarded the ship which seems so long ago. So with a heavy heart and an even heavier stomach we now start that ... read more

Oceans and Seas April 26th 2010

Days 12, 13, 14 & 15 and all there is to see is sea, plus the occasional bird and the odd flying fish. Someone said they saw a ship the other day by we think they we hallucinating. The last couple of days have been a bit rocky as the wind has got up and you know it’s going to get a bit bumpy when they start leaving strategically placed sick bags on the staircases! But when you’ve become hardened salty sea dogs like ourselves it is a mere ripple. Mind you there have been plenty things to do whilst we having been riding the waves and to prove to the sceptics among you who thought this blog was coming from our back garden and that the photos on the blog cane courtesy of the internet ... read more

Now where are we?

Oceania April 22nd 2010

Our final island in French Polynesias saw us call at Raiatea for what was too short a time as we had to be off on our final leg to Honolulu. As the time was so short we didn’t book anything so had a lazy day all round. However, thanks to the local ferry we couldn’t leave by the normal route and so we actually had some spectacular views departing the port steering in a vey narrow channel between between the island and the reef. Mind you again it was a bit disconcerting too watch the master of the ship spend more time with his camcorder rather than at the controls of his vessel. And so off to sea.... read more

Oceania April 20th 2010

Day 3 in French Polynesia and one of our favourite islands, Bora Bora. We were glad that we had previously seen the spectacular arrival to the island as you pass through the narrow channel in the reef that surrounds the island to get into the main lagoon as this time we arrived at 6.00am. Although it’s spectacular nothing is that good that you should have to get out of bed at 6.00am for and you do get to marvel at the island as we dropped anchor in its main lagoon. Anyway, another day in paradise and another hotel resort booked this time on a small island a short boat ride from the main island and after a welcoming drink we were whisked off by a golf buggy to our water villa. And as we mentioned in ... read more

Oceania April 19th 2010

Now this is more like it. Our second stop in French Polynesia sees us anchored off Moorea which we think was where the remake of Mutiny on the Bounty was filmed and which Jeremy Clarkson described as disappointing as he reckoned it looked nothing like paradise. Well Jeremy you may know a lot about cars but you know nothing about what paradise looks like. The island is tiny and it only takes an hour or so to drive around it and that is literally following the coastline as inland it is too mountainous. After the debacle of trying to find transport on Tahiti we already had transport arranged and we took a trip around the north coast of the island via Pothole Road, well that’s what we think it’s called and where you avoid a pothole ... read more

Oceania April 19th 2010

Finally land! After 7 days including 2 days of the 15th April and 162 hours of being at sea and actually only seeing two birds and having to endure the musical loop of Yesterday Once More, Eight Days a Week, Time after Time and If I Could Turn Back Time, we finally arrived at Tahiti to what? A community that couldn’t be arsed as it’s Sunday and all the locals were having their me time with no shops open and no taxis, a real big help if you want to see some of the island. Why is it when you don't want a taxi they appear as if like magic, yet when you’re in need of one you can stand on a street corner and look a real idiot with your hand raised at anything that ... read more

Oceania April 16th 2010

Well here we are still in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, miles from anywhere and actually going through April 15th all over again. We crossed the international date line yesterday at 4pm or was that today at 4pm and as a consequence we have to live 15th April all over again. Strict rules forbid us for doing anything diffrerent from April 15th day 1 which includes wearing the same clothes and eating & drinking the same things - yes we have become Bill M urray and Andie McDowell. Hopefully this is not like the film and we have to go through this everyday for the rest of the cruise. But who knows we have been at sea for so long we could be going round in circles. Hopefully we will hit land sometime soon. ... read more

Oceania April 14th 2010

Well here we are on day 3 of the cruise, some 900 odd nautical miles from Oz and only another 2,200 to go till we reach land and Tahiti. So all we can do at the moment is sleep, eat, drink and sunbathe, that's if we can tear ourselves away from the stateroom or should we call it by it's official name the Royal Suite. The suite is huge and takes you 5 minutes just to get out of it. Whilst the pictures show what it is like they do not do it justice and we have all mod cons like a baby grand piano, a bar, a mirrored ceiling over the bed (less said) and a bathroom with his and her sinks, 3 showers, a 3ft deep bath and a sauna. Okay we admit it ... read more
