Flew in from Brisbane this morning. Checked in, dropped our bags and found Central Market. Great selection of fresh fruit veg meat bread, you name it, it's here! Huge plates of lamb and chicken gyros ? think we are going to love Adelaide. Had a wander late afternoon and sat in Waiyu Yarta Park just south of the Central Market area. Very peaceful. Wednesday 4th Feb: public transport is free in the city and North Adelaide areas so we hopped on a bus from the centre and headed over the river padding the new cricket oval and into some of the older suberbs around Hill St, Gover St and Wellington Square. Nice old style houses with tin roofed verandas. Then walked along Torrens River, along part of War Memorial Drive and down King William Road to ... read more

Moved up from The Gold Coast by train this morning. Took about an hour from Nerang to Roma Street near central Brisbane. we have an early flight out to Adelaide in the morning. Staying at Meriton Apartments on Herschel Street and managed to get an upgrade to a massive suite ? happy days. Took the City Cat river taxi along the river from Storey Bridge right through to the more residential areas of Guyatt Park and West End. Good value at $5.20 hop on hop off. Nice lunch at Blue Basement Cafe on the Southbank. And coffees, mojito and a cheeky beer along the way. The Bavarian Beer Cafe at Eagle Street Pier is worth a visit. Went to Anzac Square. Being renovated so couldn't take it all in as much as we'd have liked but ... read more

The most easterly point in Australia. Lighthouse and awesome views of Byron Bay, New South Wales. fabulous beaches. Busy place popular with backpackers from all over the world and a few old hippies! Had breakfast in Kingscliffe, a much more relaxed and chic small town with nice coffee shops and boutiques. Had amazing weather but it broke on the way north and we had another torrential downpour. Hopefully it will pass soon, unlike the storms last Saturday which resulted in flash floods. ... read more

Up at 0600 and transfer to Heathrow for 0700 to do the bag drop then breakfast. Fly at 1055. Excited ? 20.01.2015: bag packing finished. Amazed that we are such lightweighta for this trip!! 30kg international flight allowance, down to 23kg for the internal flights so we aimed for 20kg .
