I am about to embark on the walk of my life! I love learning and making the most of everyday. All being well, this adventure will meet both criteria. I plan to walk the Camino de Santiago from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Santiago over six weeks. Wish me well!

To any of you who may still be following us... a big hola! It is now Thursday, I think, and Bill and I are in Barcelona.... an absolutely amazing city! It has been such an incredible time since the weekend and Finisterre... I have experienced all sorts of highs and lows. Thankfully my wonderful undersatnding husband is by my side helping me adjust to life in the city again! Mind you, as I write this I can honestly say that we have adapted to the Spanish way of life quite easily... it´s 9.15 am and Bill is still in bed after a late night last night. Its great to see him relaxing! Yesteday was our first full day here. It was great... did lots of walking around, saw Sagrada Familia and lots more of Gaudi´s work. ... read more

Hola! Yes we did it! We arrived at the cathedral in Santiago as hoped just after midday on Friday (about 8.00pm your time). It was certainly a most emotinal moment. To be honest the past two days have been incredibly emotional. Poor Bill has had to supply endless hugs and hankies! We walked from the outskirts of Santiago into the cathedral´s plaza for what seemed like hours. Bill´s feet were aching but he kept on going! Finally we saw the spire of the Cathedral. It was not like Burgos though... for me it was not until I was actually at the Cathedral that I realised I hadfinished... even then it was a long time before i could accept that I had completed my original challenge. We took time to savour the moment... we sat for ages ... read more

Hi everyone Well we are literally just one more day away from Santiago and my final destination. It is very hard to believe that we are so close! Today we walked about 20kms through beautiful woodlands including many groves of eucalyptus trees so at times it felt just like being back at home. Truly amazing! Bill is certainly getting stronger each day and with another 700kms or so I´m sure would be doing the camino just fine! Actually he is doing really well. I can remember those first few days of acclimatising to the camino... the long days walking, carrying that pack on your back and managing the heat. I had forgotten all that as now it just seems like second nature. I am feeling somewhat confused at present as to how to feel... if that ... read more

Hi everyone I can hardly believe it but we are now just 40 kms from Santiago!!!! Wow where did that 800kms go! Bill has started to get use to camino life especially after walking 30kms today! Mind you today was a gastronomical delight! We bought fresh baguette and croissant from the baker as he made his way around the tiny village. Then we came across a town well reknowned for its octopus (Pulpo) and of course had to try. What a yummy delight! We aimed to continue wañlking ofr a couple more hours before stopping but of course it wasn´´t long and we walking through forests, would you belive of oak and eucalyptus trees! We came across fresh raspberries and fresh figs... just had to buy. Found a gorgeous little brook and rest stop and sat ... read more

Hi everyone, Well finally my best buddy has joined me on the walk of a lifetime! We have both walked 23kms today to now be in Portamarin... a tiny town just four days walk from Santiago. Bill arrived in Lugo last night after 3 days travel which inlcuded four flioghts and a bus trip. needless to say I have left him sound asleep right now in our room. He is exhausted and after such a trip and carrying a far-too-heavy pack he is a shattered pilgrim. I am sure though that with a good nights sleep maybe helped along by a cervesa he´ll be fine and ready to go the next 26kms tomorrow.... I am an optimist, Iknow!!! I had a taste of luxury whilst waiting for Bill. I left Sarria on Saturday morning and travelled ... read more

Hi everyone, I have been very lucky and had another superb day ... so much so that I really wanted to share it with you. Last night I stayed at villafranca.. a lovely town with a beautiful park, the usual cathedral, large buildings and old castle. It is in the Valcarces Vally hwich means you have to walk up hill and down dale to get anywhere... not easy after a long walk! No matter. This morning I did the usual, got up and left the albergue at about 7.00am I wasn´t in a hurry as I knew I had the whole day to do about 23kms. It was dark, yes even at 7.00am as the sun doesn´t get up unitl about 8.00a.m I left alone... really for the first time during this whole experience. I was ... read more

Ran out of euro before I could tell you about Ponferrada. It was another special day in so many ways. It was yesterday... Sunday. Chick and our 3 Aussie friends walked into Ponferrada (8 kms) in the morning, shared our usual breakfast (cafe or hot choc and croissant or similar... no wonder we are not losing any weight!!!) and then we had to say goodbye. I walked chick to the bus station... we had three lovely locals help us along the way.. one actually made sure we were right there before he left us. These people are truly lovely esp. if they think you, as a pilgrim is lost!!! ANyway, after a somewhat teary farewell I turned to walk back to the Castle I owuld visit as a typical tourist, feeling very alone when I met ... read more

Hi once again I am not sure where to start ... there seems so many things I would love to share with you all. Do I start with dinner at Rabanal with the Canon from Westminster Abbey or the fact that Rabanal was the end of a very hard day of wlaking... easy kms but agony as my left calf muscle was really tight!!! yues, I cried a lot but as is often the case, reached down deep and called on all my inner strength and that of my guardian angels to get me through... and I made it! The climb to the highest peak of our whole walk was the most magic experience of all. Starting off early we saw the sun rise and the many colours of the valley change as we climbed higher ... read more

Hola once again from sunny Spain It seems like ages since I last wrote a blog... at least a few days I think and in that time so much has happened. Today was amazing in so many ways. I have just returned to the alburgue after the best meal out. We dined like kings tonight! Our pilgrim meal included salmon and homemade creme caramel with of course, the vino tinto! It was delicious and served with real napkins and two glasses (one for water, the other for wine). My, how the small things start to matter. All this after our 30kms walk today through absolutely beautiful countryside. It was sooooo cold this morning ...even wore our gloves and winter thermals. may still need the balaclava as we start to ascend the mountains tomorrow. The day got ... read more
