Vietnam certainly had aspects that made it a worthwhile trip and others which made us speed towards the Lao border in the end. It is a very interesting country, the history is heart-rending, the landscape beautiful, the cities vibrant and the coastline beautiful. On the other hand, the people are hard, everything has to be haggled over to the nth degree so it's an almost constant battle and the tourism has become a range of tailor-made trips so you can feel like you are being conveyor-belted thru the country. However I must say it is one of the cheapest and easiest countries I have travelled in - accommodation, food, transport are incredible value for money.
