For those who were with the Delta group, we realized this morning that 4:30 may not be early enough! Everything went well, but let's just say we reenacted a scene from Home Alone (see: sprinting to our gate). We all arrived in Boston in one piece and on time! After meeting our Tour Director, Stephanie and Bus Driver, Michael, we departed for our 3:30 Fenway Park tour. Our guide did a fantastic job of explaining many of the new and old features of the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. For those baseball fans, we highly recommended this tour! After the tour, we made a little time for shopping at the Red Sox store across the street. The top priority after the tour was FOOOOOOOOOD!!!!! We departed for Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market for dinner and ... read more

Today’s blog will read much more like a list of our itinerary due to pure, unfiltered exhaustion! We began the day with a tour of our nation’s Caiptol building. We were able to go into the Rotunda and Staturary Hall. After the tour we went to lunch at the Old Post Office and did a bit of shopping while we were there. After lunch was a very moving trip at the Holocaust Museum. From there we went to the Einstein Statue for a quick photo opportunity before going to our appointment at Ford’s Theater. After a great National Park Ranger talk at Ford’s Theater and a little bit of shopping, we headed back to Capitol Hill for a visit to the Supreme Court and Library of Congress. Dinner was at a great little Italian restaurant and ... read more

Today was another successful one as our 2011 US History Trip begins to wind down. We began the day at Mount Vernon which was George Washington’s home. The grounds are immaculate and the buildings have been restored or rebuilt to represent how they looked when he died in 1799. We were told that about 40% of the art, artifacts, and furniture were original pieces! We even got to use the original banister as we walked up to the second floor of the mansion. It was truly an amazing experience! We ate lunch at the food court at Mount Vernon and then departed for Arlington National Cemetery. What a moving experience for everyone. Notable graves include John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Ted Kennedy, William Taft, and several others. We were able to watch the changing of the ... read more

As you have figured out by now, we didn't post last night! After getting back to the hotel a little before midnight, we were entirely too exhausted to put together coherent sentences, so you get a special double edition today! We began yesterday with another very good breakfast at the hotel and we then departed for Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. What a fantastic way to start the day! We boarded a ferry from Liberty State Park in New Jersey and headed off to Ellis Island. The National Park Service has done a great job of restoring the main structure on Ellis Island. The kids were able to look up some of the ship’s manifests to see if any ancestors came through the island. They also had a very interesting exhibit which chronicled what ... read more

What a day! After another good breakfast at our first hotel, we loaded our luggage and headed out for New York! It was about a four hour drive from Boston which made for a great time to catch up on sleep. We watched National Treasure and napped which was a nice, relaxing way to start the day. When we arrived in New York, our tour director, Stephanie came to life! She lives in New York and has great passion for the city. Her enthusiasm was illustrated by a dance number to the tune of New York, New York and her excitement was contagious! As we got into the city, we drove down 5th Avenue and by Central Park. All along the way, Stephanie told us about the city, its sights, and its history. Our first stop ... read more

What an awesome day! We began our first FULL day of travel with a very good breakfast at the hotel which included scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles, cereal, pastries, fruit, and lots of other good stuff! We had a full day ahead of us and definitely needed the hearty breakfast! We headed out for Boston at about 7:40 and after a bit of rain and traffic, we picked up our local tour guide, Scott and headed out for the day. We began on the North End of Boston in a very old and affluent neighborhood where JFK's parents, Rose and Joe lived. We then saw some original cobblestone streets outside of Paul Revere's house! After walking past the famous Paul Revere statue, we enjoyed a tour of the Old North Church. The docent did a fantastic job ... read more
