Day 1
Day 1
All smiles!
Well, it’s our last day and we are a little sad that it’s coming to an end, but we are all worn out and ready to get home to our families! Today was a little more relaxed than the rest of the days as we didn’t have any time restraints. We started the day with our 8am wakeup call so we could be at the National Archives by 10am. The National Archives is where the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights, and many other American documents that shaped our great country are located. Even though they were behind a few [View Full Entry]

What’s been up for eighteen hours, has barking dogs, and has seen half of “Wasington” D.C.? The Bixby History Club, that’s who! We began our day with our 5:00 A.M. wake-up call so that we could get to the White House for our 7:30 tour. We visited the green, red, and blue rooms, as well as the state dining room and Vermeil room. The library and the east room were also toured. On the way out, we met a very nice Secret Service agent from Hugo, Oklahoma, who gave the kids the scoop on what it takes to be an agent. [View Full Entry]

Day six began with the National Constitution Center. They had a wonderful virtual demonstration / multimedia / live performance that described the foundation of our country. After the presentation we looked at a number of artifacts, read more about the story of our country, and visited the interactive exhibits. The Center really brought the Constitution to life and how it relates to our everyday lives! After the Center we had a little bus trouble which lead to lunch at the Gallery which is a HUGE mall in downtown Philadelphia. The bus trouble didn’t really affect our schedule, just wher [View Full Entry]

Today was filled with many wonderful experiences. We started the day with breakfast at the hotel (in NJ) and then departed for Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty (via ferry). The building that once filtered millions of immigrants into the United States is now a museum. Many of the kids enjoyed looking through the roles to see if any of their ancestors came through Ellis Island (many were able to find direct relatives!). The kids seemed to really appreciate the history the island holds. From Ellis Island, we went to Liberty Island, where the Statue of Liberty stands. Lady Liberty [View Full Entry]

What a day! We started with breakfast at the hotel (the usual stuff) followed by a tour of Yankee Stadium. It was a great tour! We got to go onto the warning track of the field and even got to sit in the Yankee dugout! After the dugout, we went up to the press box for some great pictures. After the Yankee Stadium tour, we took the subway to Chinatown and Little Italy. The subway ride was a really neat experience. Some of the kids got to see an impromptu performance by a guy playing the bongos. Some of the kids [View Full Entry]

Today was another extremely busy day so we apologize for the length of the blog entry. We started the morning touring the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum. From there we made the journey to New York City. The drive was a little longer than anticipated because of traffic, so we lost our shopping time (but probably saved parents some money!). However, this allowed the kids to reenergize before our busy schedule tomorrow. Once in NYC, we ate at Mariella Pizza (Oprah’s favorite!) and then went to the top of the Empire State Building. The kids loved the views and picture [View Full Entry]

Our day started with breakfast at the hotel (scrambled eggs, sausage, fried potatoes, cereal, fruit, yogurt, waffles, etc.). After breakfast we were off to Boston’s North End (the oldest part of the city). We toured the Old North Church where Paul Revere and William Dawes looked to see if there was one lantern or two (one if by land, two if by sea). The church was amazing! Instead of pews or chairs, families rented partially enclosed booths. Families could show their status in the community by renting a booth close to the pulpit. Much like sports seats, the better booths cost [View Full Entry]

Hi family and friends! Well, we finally made it and are settled in. It was a very long day as you can imagine, which is why this will be a short blog entry :) We all arrived on time and with no problems! We did a little sight seeing in Boston, ate dinner at Quincy Market and did a little shopping. We had a change in plans regarding the fireworks. Becuase of the number of people that would be in Boston and our long day, we opted for the fireworks in Salem, MA. The display was incredible and the syphony that [View Full Entry]
