Slovakia is one of the lesser known nations of Europe. It has always remained in the shadow of the more illustrious nations like England, Scotland, Italy, France etc. But like most of the other European nations, Slovakia is also an outstanding nation in every respect. It is also full of great tourist spots and has its own unique culture and rich history.
Prague We were in Prague just after the wall came down and still remember it as one of the most beautiful cities we have ever been to. Everything at that time was very cheap, including eating out. Caution - do not buy their chocolate. We bought chocolate bars and ours had pieces of aluminimum foil bedded into it along with a couple of paper clips! Their santitation rules on food prep are a little different than ours. Try to get to the Jewish musuem beside the Jewish cementary. The artwork from the children of the concentration games will leave you wih a vivid picture of life in a camp as seen through the eyes of children. On your way back to get your car, visit Dresden, another beautiful city and try and see the wall. The artistry of it is beautiful. Enjoy!

Rouen history Thank you for your Rouen travellog. As a little slide note, in 1671 Guillaume Couture left Rouen to travel to the New World to become the first Couture settler in North America. I look forward to seeing that cathedral in person someday.
Wow, great information Dave. The catherdral was spectacular. Feel free to come over and view the pics anytime, we have lots of that cathedral as we were not cathedraled out yet :)
We got ripped off royally on our first visit to Venice. We were inexperienced travellers and when we arrived in Venice we asked how to get to the island. We too were directed to a water taxi but this taxi took us directly to the island that dioes the glass blowing. We were ushered into the warehouse. After the demonstration, when they realized that we were not going to purchase anything they shoved us out the back door. We had no idea where we were, our taxi was no where in sight. We walked around for a bit and finally found a water bus. When we were on board the bus we realized we had no idea where we had parked our van. We rode the bus for about an hour before I noticed something familar about the area. We got off the bus, got into our motorhome and although it was now early evening, we left the city and headed away. It was another 12 years before I returned and actually discovered what a beautiful city Venice is. Enjoy your day and Syd, enjoy your birthday. I hope you realize how lucky you are to have a dad who treats you so royally.

I have to agree with you about France. Although I had been to France many times before it wasn't until the fall of 2010 that we were able to spend more time there. We travelled around for over 2 weeks and still I realize how much more there is to see, especially after reading your blog. Next year when we go again I want to try some of those hikes you went on. The pictures are great and I am anxious to see everything first hand. Would have loved to have seen a picture of Syd in corn braides. Special note to Syd - have a really happy birthday on Wednesday. We love you and are so happy that you are having such a fantastic holiday. What a way to spend your 13th birthday. I am sure you will remember it for the rest of your life, Love, Grandma and Grandpa - PS - I think your trip tops the gopher museum.
Pics The internet at this hotel is not good enough to allow adding pics to the internet. The upload times out before the pics is done. I will put up the pictures later today.

great job glad to hear you and syd are enjoying your trip so much. Good to hear about all of these places. Keep up the great work. Don't like to shave on your adventures eh? As I recall you had quite a weird beard when I saw you in Nova Scotia back in 08. Keep up the great work.

Food Love the pictures of the food. They make my mouth water. Good tip about 501 places. I think I will pick it up and plot out our next trip using it. Agree with you about Rouen. Did you see Joan of Arc's statue there. While in France try to check out one of the Commonwealth grave sites of our soldiers. I think you will find it moving.
Brugges We are looking forward to hearing about Brugges. Don't forget to sample some of the chocolate and the french fries. A must try is a waffle with nutella and banana or strawberries. Sooooo good! Mike says have some Belguim Beer. He thinks they make the best beer! Your trip sounds like a lot of fun so far. Really enjoying your blogs.
Syd is hilarious I love reading about your adventures! My favorite segment is the quotes at the end. Your girl is hilarious! Keep taking risks for the fun of it!!
