Jeez its been a long time since ive last written, I've really just been continuing to get adjusted and attempting to speak spanish with all the IFSA kids, which is much harder than I thought it would be! We have been going to the park most days after class and drinking Mate, which is this herbal tea that literally everyone in the country drinks all the time. You drink it out of this cup that is actually called mate and the herbs inside are called yerba. I'm not a huge fan unless it has sugar but its something i've got to get used to since people sit in the park for hours and drink it. We had an entire class dedicated to it with our spanish classes because its so important! And there are lots of ... read more

Hola everyone! sorry its been awhile since ive written, trying to get my bearings on the city and i'm finally feeling more comfortable and have successfully figured out how to lock and unlock my front gate, which was a big feat for me! We have been having lots of orientations and then lots of free time this last week. We spent the afternoon picking clasess and are able to go to both the public university "Universidad Nacional De Cuyo" or the private school "Universidad Congreso" where we have a 2 week shopping period that the other students don't have that allows us to take up to 10 classes and choose which classes we like, what teachers we can understand, etc. This is going to be a lifesaver i think, but also going to make the first ... read more

So I guess this post is the real first day in Mendoza, we got in around 6:30 pm on Sunday night. My host mom and host aunt picked me up from the airport because she, her 2 kids, her mother, and their other sister’s son were had been staying with them for their 2 week winter vacation. (they all live in Buenos Aires) Once we got back to the house everyone was waiting and they we all exchanged the traditional kiss on the cheek, after that we gave each other our gifts (they gave me a pretty key chain for the house keys) the guys loved their packer gear and have been wearing them every day now, maybe ill create some packer fans down in Argentina!! My host mom is actually a great cook, which is ... read more

Hollaaa todos! I suppose I should start with the next day in Buenos Aires where we spent 8 hours traveling and sightseeing around the city, my favorite part was the plaza de mayo which is where the las madres i the 1970's would walk as a silent protest against their children who had been kidnapped and "disappeared" during the guerra sucio or dirty war. Really a crazy story and something I studied in one of my international studies classes. we pretty much saw all the usual buildings such as the casa rosada or their white house (though the president doesn't actually live there) and many churches and parts of the city that are famous. These tours aren't really my favorite part especially since i was still completely jet lagged from the day before. We ate at ... read more

Hi everyone! its about 10 pm in Argentina, we just got back from dinner and were technically eating at the senior citizens time since the line was out the door as we were leaving (families with young children included). Dinner doesn't really start until at the earliest 10 pm, but we are not adjusted to that and even waiting till 8:30 was horrible! So I made it to Argentina but of course my bags never made it, I guess they were only checked through to Houston : / but they should be arriving tomorrow around 10 AM and are being delivered to my hotel, and I'm quite surprised with how well they handled this.... So once I got that situation taken care of I met with the rest of the group heading to Mendoza in a ... read more
