| 13th January 2008 overwhelmed | Nice images & 1 good observation - From: Back to Kathamandu - Burning in Pashupathinath and Monkeying around in Swayambhunath I liked your blog. The images are very nice. i especially liked the one with the title..Looking over Kathmandu. I happen to be from Varanasi. In hindus its believed that if you have your last las breath in varanasi then you are sure to reach heaven. I have been a part of many cremations of my old family members and one of your observations about cremations caught my notice. You have written about death being a part of life and not being as gruesome as expected. its quite true and one of the traditions in some hindus involves celebrating the death of elderly..cherishing the fact that he lived a fulsome life. Your observation is remarkable because it comes from a person who is not used to the ways of hindus. Cheers, Saurabh Ranjan |
| 22nd November 2007 julie | volunteering - From: Sepilok - Going Wild! And High Teas Hi I just wanted to pick your brains about volunteering in borneo. I am keen to go next year but am a bit undecided as to where. Sepilok looks great but touristy and expensive, but my other choice was matang in sarawak which doesn't house as many orangutans and I think you don't get as much contact with them. Did you get much hands on contact ie feeding babies etc. Did you do any fundraising to help with costs? Do you get days to visit the rest of sabah/ borneo? I would really appreciate your response. Thanks julie |
