Another quick e-mail just to catch up with you all about a few more of our activities down here. My Mum & Dad arrive this afternoon for a visit so we've been quite busy getting ready i.e. cleaning the flat and stocking up with gin. I'm also basking in the glory of last night's thumping win by the mighty Hurricanes over the Blues (from Auckland - boo...) in the opening round of the Super 14 rugby season!! The last blog covered new year and since then we've been up to a reasonable amount but nothing too flash due to our restricted [View Full Entry]

Ah, the rolling fields

We're having a much-needed lazy Sunday today - recovering from the carnage that was the Wellington Rugby Sevens tournament....also known as the world's biggest fancy dress party! See future blog.... No where we we...? Oh yes, we'd just finished the Queen Charlotte Track and were getting on a bus to Nelson for new year. You'll be glad to know that I'm in no mood to go into detail with this blog so here's a quick summary of our wee Hogmanay holiday in Nelson. We were invited by a friend of mine from work called Lotty and her fiance Brett who were [View Full Entry]

And so to part 2 of our Festive Season epic - sorry for the long delay between the Christmas Day match report and this, but we've been well busy and having to take work home with me for evenings and weekends doesn't help me find the time to do this. There'll be a load of pictures added here too - we took 110 in 4 days and it'll be hard for me to pick the best but I'll do my best and I hope I get the names of the places right. Not that you’d know better, anyway..... Day 0 - [View Full Entry]

Land ahoy, cap'n!

Happy new year to all readers wherever you are in the world! And welcome to new readers that I've added since the last blog. Well, Christmas was a bit different for us this year - apart from the whole 'summer' thing, having no family around to share the day with was certainly a bummer and something that we didn't particularly like. Well, what do we expect to happen!? Anyhoo, after finishing work on the 23rd we met up with Graeme & Anna for drinks and food (after I collected Jo-Ann from the pub - she'd been boozing since 2pm whereas I [View Full Entry]

I'm sure you're dying to know that it's warm a sunny today although the forecast for Christmas day is a bit mixed.....we'll see what happens! We're going to Graeme & Anna's for Xmas Breakfast and then off to Simon's Mum's house for Xmas Dins with the family which will be fantastic. On boxing day we're hitcxhing the ferry to the South Island where we'll do the 4 day Queen Charlotte walking track - we have back-packs, tent, sleeping bags and everything! Just like inter-railing again but [View Full Entry]

Hot off the press!! Who needs Leicester Square, London when you've got Courtenay Place, Wellington!! After all those other poncy premiers, Wellington's home-grown hero Peter Jackson finally brought his King Kong party back to its home for its REAL premier! We got a decent spot at the beginning of the red capret and saw everyone arrive that we wanted to and a whole load that we really didn't care about. We saw Dan Carter (All Blacks stand-off and Jo-Ann's hunk of the year) and stars from the film like Jamie Bell (previously of Billy Elliott fame), Colin Hanks (who I'm sure [View Full Entry]

It’s been way too long since the last blog so I’ll make this a bit of an epic! Plenty to report on so here goes the highlights in no particular order: I Want To Ride My Bicycle We’ve at last started to get out on our mountain bikes and we’re out about 2-3 times a week weather and general business pending. There are loads of cycle lanes and tracks in Wellington and around the city but the flat ones are few and far between. Wellington is so hilly that it makes San Francisco look like Holland so it can get pretty [View Full Entry]

Hi, all - it's been a while since I last did one of these as we've been fairly busy since we got back from our trip back to blighty. I'll have to keep this reasonably brief as Jo-Ann insists that I sepnd too long on the computer. In fact if she had her way, there would be no more blogs...ever. Might not be a bad thing, I'm sure some of you are thinking! Anyway, we had a great trip home despite spending approx 48 hours on planes with only a couple of hours break each way in what felt like a [View Full Entry]

I'm stuck!

Just a quick blog as we're busy packing for our trip home but I must report on our cracking weekend skiing at Turoa on Mount Ruapehu, one of New Zealand's most active volcanoes. It forms part of Tongariro National Park and is pretty much in the middle of the North island. The car behaved well on the return journey and the weather behaved even better. So well that our neglect to bring any sunscreen had quiet an impact on my face. I'm peeling already and with my new huge goggles, I have a resemblance to a brown and pink panda. It [View Full Entry]
