The Scam - the outcome? I wish that you finished the info on the scam. I avoided it yesterday as I assumed that anyone that nice would be a scammer, but would like to know what I avoided.
Photos of the Con Artists Hi Andrew, this sounds like the same group of Filipino con artists operating in Ho Chi Minh City. I have lots of photos here from the last 3 years. I was curious if you might be able to identify them or would mind leaving a few comments at the blog. I'm hoping to spread the word so we can catch these criminals and make things safer for tourists.

Thanks!
That's shat! I'm sorry that the bat,
did indeed do a shat,
upon thee knee,
I bet the bat did flee,
once it did see,
that it had indeed shat,
upon thee knee,
The end.
Based on a true 'sorry that happened' emotion

Good Trekking Guide. Hi Kiley & Jamie.
I booked mine through the travel agency at my hotel in Bangkok and although the agent had planned it well. But everything ended up being swapped and changed about during the trek as I was the only person starting that day to do the 3 day. So things happened in a different order than expected. But luckily I got to do everything at some stage. But on my first day I had a very good guide who was easy to talk to and very informative. He runs his own tours as well separately where the tribes get more money and help than on the travel agent ones (where the agents get most of the money). I would recommend that you contact Tony (the trekker). His email is:
to_nyland@hotmail.com
And he has a webpage:
https://sites.google.com/site/tonysadventurestours/
I think he'll give you a good trek and lots of info on the Longneck Karen tribe and everything else too. If you contact him, tell him Andy from Ireland sent you, ha!
Have a good time!
your trek! hi andy, we came across your blog while researching longnecks on google. it seemed you had a better experience than lonely planet makes out that the average tourist would have, something that concerned us too. my wife and i are in chiang mai at the moment and was looking at tours either here or at chiang rai. if you could let me know the company you booked the tour with it would be a great help for us as the choice, as you know, is ridiculous and we would love to look into it more
good luck with the trip anyway!
kiley
Petra I should have read your blog before asking daft questions in Flickr about some of your photos!
Makes interesting reading. What a great way to keep a record of your travels and experiences. Keep it up.
I had never heard of Petra before...but as you were exploring it, I was learning all about it on a television show about another guy exploring it! It's now on my list of places to see one day.
I'm on a bit of an adventure this year and thought it would be good to scribble down a journal so I can remember what I actually saw and did and to keep my family and friends content that I'm still alive...!
I'm an architect from N. Ireland and enjoy many things, including travelling..!
I'm gonna have a good go at keeping it up to date but no promises!
