Happy Birthday Hey Happy Birthday Hewey, I didn't know how to get in touch with you so I figured this is the best way that i knew how. Hope all is good on the far east side and that your day has been a great one. Anyway I enjoy reading the blog so keep those posts coming!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Hi Andrew -- Happy Birthday!!!! I hope you are having a GREAT day!!! Sounds like you are very busy. Thanks for the advice on how to eat a mango -- too funny!!! Things are good here -- we had a 50th birthday party for Mark last Saturday -- it was lots of fun!! He got some really funny stuff! Everyone is doing good -- nothing new to report. Camp sounds like it will be fun for you. It looks like Mark will probably be going to San Diego in June for 1 year. We are still hoping he will find something here, keep your fingers crossed!! Take care and we love and miss you!!
mmm...mangos. delightful. again - happy birthday! i hope you got to do something fun today/tonight! you'll have to fill us in on your next post - we want details. :P
Happy Bday Hey Andy, Your blogs are so fun to read and make me feel like I've been to Ghana! I'm writing to wish you a Happy Belated Birthday. I thought your bday was today, the 23rd, but I just went to double-check and it seems I'm 2 days off! So I hope you had a little celebration, but if not there'll be plenty of time for that when you're home. Take care and God Bless.
i'm officialy grossed out by your cow-butchering entry. flies on raw cow meat = a sad mandy. nothing new - just the regular april-birthday rush. my dad turns 50 this month!! we're making plans for joey and kelly's reception (8/22) and there are new sonogram pictures of baby cameron on facebook. take care of yourself andrew! :)
something tells me you're going to have a much more peaceful experience at the sounders game. :) i hope your friend's hand is ok and that the borehole situation gets resolved!
Hi Andrew Sorry it has been so long since I have written. Not much is new. Mark still might be going to San Diego for a year, but no final decision has been made. Mandy is fine and I see she writes regularly! Joey and Kelly are doing good -- he is still at Boeing and she is now showing. Baby's due date is still June 26th. Grandma Pat has been having some health issues, but nothing too bad -- just very time consuming!! Your mom can fill you in. I can't believe you have been gone for 8 months!! We all miss you very much!!! I am definitely all for you buying some Kente cloth for yourself for your birthday!!! Take care and I promise to write more regularly. Love Annie
I'm now craving pineapple...delicious! I did a quick search, and Ghana doesn't have much of a military history - so the marching is, indeed, odd.
Good luck your borehole - well water terrifies me. Not much is new here...we had dinner @ Ixtapa's last week for Jeffy's birthday and I might have celebrated too much. Let's just say it was a really long day @ work on Friday. :) Take care!!
rule with an iron fist andrew! :P way to lay the smack down! i hope your students do well - i would imagine it's frustrating for you if the kids don't take exams seriously and susequently under-perform. definitely let us know.
i love big storms - sounds pretty cool!
couple big things to update you on: my dad finds out soon if he's moving to california for work and joey moved up to camano island. they're going to name the baby cameron joseph.
take care!!
centipede....millipedes I believe the ones that curl are millipedes. They are usually brownish, some brownish red in color. I am from Ghana but living in the United States and like reading blogs of travelers to Ghana. Good read.
Visited Jenny Dear Andrew, Larry and I spent the week end with Jenny. We flew down Friday morning and then walked the beach at Santa Monica. We found a local cafe for lunch and then back to her apartment. it is a much better neighborhood than the one she was going to be living in. I'm much happier about it and feel that she will be safer.
Later we did some shopping for her apartment at Costco, groceries from Albertsons and then some take out for dinner.
On Saturday we went to the LA Zoo. You know how Jenny love's zoos. The traffic wasn't bad but we waited in line for nearly an hour just to get tickets to get in. It is a nice zoo with gorillas, chimps, a rhino, Hippo, leapard, lions, and the usual assortment of birds and small mammals.
So glad to here that you are doing well in Ghana. I do hope you get to watch some local soccer. That would be something to remember.
Love you and think of you often! May God bless and watch over you!
Marlyn and Larry
Patience Are you trying to make any friends? If you are not a little nicer to the students, you will not be their favorite teacher...
So you are also an artist! Hopefully you took a picture of the map.
I'm glad to hear that you are helping with STARS. It sounds like something thats right up you alley. Keep us informed on your progress.
I know you'll have a great time coaching the track team next year. Let's hope for better results.
Your idea of cruising accross the Atlantic sounds fantastic! May be I should be looking for a job so that we can afford to cruise with you!!!
I've started gathering thing for your birthday package... Thanks for the suggestions of what you would like.
Love, Mom
I stumbled on your blog and I find it very interesting because even though I live in Maryland (since 1980), Akrokerri in my Ancestral hometown. Lived most of my life in Ghana in Accra and Tema. My 3 kids all born in the US have been to Akrokerri. You wrote “My first question was where were the watchmen?” That is why we call the watchman in Ghana and not ‘catchmen” or security guards. They are there to “watch” not necessarily to prevent robbery or catch the robbers. By the way that’s an old High School joke from my days growing up in Ghana. Keep writing because I will be following. Thank you!
Funeral... I think we have the bounce houses covered for your funeral. I even have a blow up water slide:) You crack me up! Sorry to hear about the death and the robbery. That sucks. Keep your head up, we are all thinking of you.
Love ya!
don't you mock my la skies...I'll have you know that it actually rained here for three days straight...the most rain I've seen all year, so today, the sky was beautiful and I could see the furthest I have yet...so there...too bad it'll be all crappy by the end of the week...maybe even tomorrow...oh well
it's about time! great update andrew! i hope you get your phone working, sorry you're running into so many issues. in other news - i'm getting a nephew! :) joey and kelly are really excited, they just found out this morning. i'm glad school is picking up and you are keeping busy. the next 7 months will fly by - take care and talk to you soon!
mandy
holy crap andrew - i didn't realize it was such an odyssey. i wish i could see fist fights in the street...there is nothing like public fighting to pick me up when i'm down! :) hope your trip home is less eventful this time. see you in two weeks!!
Planes and Poop Andrew, it was so great to see you (and of course Jenny)!! I'm so sorry that it had to be at the loss of your Grandma.
I must say that the pictures you shared with me of your school, village, and living quarters gave me a very clear picture of the life you're now living in Ghana. Not many people could take on the challenge; I certainly don't believe I could. Stay well these next couple of weeks, and we'll see you on Christmas.
Best,
Scott
I found you a phone If you still need one, I found you a Blackberry (global version, so should have no problems in Africa). It's a Verizon phone as well. It's about 9 months old. Let me know if you're interested (it's free, of course). :)
Hello from Monroe! It feels like it's been a really long time coming - so congrats on finally getting to teach form 1 students! Not a lot is new here...well, that's not totally true, as I am going to be an aunt in June. :)
Everyone is good and we're all really excited to see you! It's that kind of gross time in fall here where the leaves are pretty much gone and it's been raining/drizzling...ick.
As far as I'm concerned, Obama winning was the easy part, now he will inherit so many problems and it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
I have a book I want to send you - it's one of my faves. I'm wondering if I should send it, or just wait until you get home? I'll ask your mom.
Stay safe - have fun, and I'll see you soon!!
