Congratulations! Well done for your finding a job in Tokyo! It is not very easy to do so under the economic climate there, with an increasingly high unemployment rate (especially younger population). It could take a while to get used to how things work in Japan, but it's all going to be a good experience. Look forward to read more update!
Robot Hoover Hi Tom.
That Robot Hoover looks mighty familiar as does the carpet it is standing on. Glad you managed to meet up and hope you continue to do so.
Actually.... The "mistranslation" you mentioned is meant to be "buffet". A word "smorgasbord" (various esp. savoury dishes as hors d'oeuvres or a buffet meal) happens to be Scandinavian (Swedish) origin, hence somehow ended up in the image of Vikings. You will not find any gigantic, fierce Nordic warriors there, unfortunately.
Usually these places offer "all-you-can-eat" deal with some sort of time limits (60-90 minutes) once you pay a fixed price.
cheap eats yo Tom! Impressed yr writing a blog - good one. If memory still serves Shakeys do an all you can eat pizza buffet one day a week for lunch and the bakeries in the dpt stores have big discounts an hour before closing - perfect for stocking up on carbs... Have fun. I remember beef rice bowl on a daily basis cos it was the cheapest around yoshinoya - cheep and good
Saizeriya in Asakusa Someone I know told me that there is a branch of Saizeriya restaurant in Asakusa, although it might not be easy to find. Worth trying!
Other good budget eateries If you fancy some Italian-ish food for a change, try Saizeriya Restaurant. I do not know if they have any of their branch in Asakusa district, but they are really good value for money. Also, look out for local izakaya, some of which might offer lunchtime service for visitors and local workers.
No. 52 (Mos Burger) The one you said not too sure is "Korean BBQ beef" burger. I cannot remember exactly which takeaway restaurant (may be Domino's), but I have had some Korean BBQ pizza at one of my friend's house in Kyoto (telephone-oedered & delivered) and it was REALLY tasty!!
Glad you've made it! Looks like the day you arrived was raining. It could be very humid and hot this time of year, even before the rainy season. How was your flight?
Food Hi Tom,
You must get the recipe for the hedgehog bread; looks strange. Have sent your CV via email. How's the hostel? Did you go up top of the tower you talked about in your email? More pis soon I hope. Take care. Dad
