What a great commentary
Laura: You did such a great job describing your summer. I really did enjoy every minute of it. I think I will keep it on my computer for a while and reread it all over again. Bob has some friends in New Albin whose children have been in Peru, and their family joined them at the close of their summer, too. Thanks again for your efforts on behalf of all of us back home. Marilyn

WOW!
Laura, Your mind must be overflowing with all of the experiences you're having this summer. I'm glad you're journaling; it would be sad to forget a moment of it. Can you imagine your family climbing the wrong mountain in CO? (Probably cuz your dad forgot the maps). They will be so happy to see you; have a marvelous week with them, and we'll be happy to see you at home.

Hi!
John has forwarded all of the blogs to me - I have loved all of them. I know your family is very excited to see you and be in Peru. I am very jealous - I hope you find Machu Pichu as magical as we did - we can't wait to talk to you about it.

schedule
Ok I'll try this on another site...We arrive in Cusco next Thursday Aug 8 about 9 a.m. Will plan on meeting you at our hostel shortly after.Thursday and Friday nights at San Blas Casa Andina. I guess it's a new chain. We're at the San blas site. Trip to ollytaytambo on Sat via markets, etc (Pisac) and then to El Alberge hotel/hostel in olly right on the train station Sat night. We don't have lodging in Aguas Calientes yet for Sunday night. People won't email me back. Am hoping to stay there Sunday night, get up early Monday am for Machu Picchu and then train out Monday night to olly or urubamba. Would then go back to Cusco on Tues. Could possibly stay in the Sacred valley before Machu for another night if we don't hear back, but then miss the early sunrise.. We're flying out early Wednesday morning to come home. You should try to move your flight if you can. Email or call us. Off to Colorado tomorrow(Tuesday) after work. Flying. Home Sunday night, then work 2 days, then Peru. Relaxing. Love you dad

Love you and look forward to visiting with you back in Iowa. Auntie Marilyn

Food's okay...
Hey, Laura, We love your updates. And if you want to describe food, SOMEone can just skip that part. There are taste buds I haven't used for a while and it's fun to have my imagination about your dinner wake them up. I'm glad you're having fun. The mountain dwellings are amazing and I'm interested in hearing more. Take care! We think of you all the time... Kris

Careful!!!!!!!!!
Great- -make me nervous about you on the roads, whitewater rafting, and drunken incan blonde sacrifices... Sounds like a GREAT weekend-appears you're making the very best of a less formal program than you had anticipated-keep up the independent study....(but be careful...) We're off to vail in 10 days-no single track hiways for us, just I 70. We're flying to Denver-will be a shorter trip of 5 days. Then home 2 days and off to see you. Can't wait. No formal lodging plans yet, but I'm sure we'll take yur advice and just stay in cusco the first day, so you can plan that way. Enough about the food already!!?$?@?$# worse than mom and mel............. High temp today is about 60 degrees- -odd. ?Any pics yet????or still slow internet. Can't wait to see you -and it'll be nice to have you home for a while. Hope you're not too homesick-you're already almost halfway through this half of the experience already. Think of some good things for us to do-although it sounds like just hanging out in the culture isn't all bad. Give us a jingle when you can. We'll try to nail down some dates for travel with you. Love you-DAD

CO
It is hard to believe that there is a place that is 5 times what Colorado is, but just the thought makes me extremely jealous of your place and overall experience!

Trivia
It is sooo good to read your blogs (and talk to you)! And nice to know your adventurous palate is enjoying the new taste treats. It occurs to me that maybe we can 'take care of' the creatures from the chipmunk condos in our new landscaping in a tasty stew?? Never mind. Our tastebuds here are enjoying the fruits of summer. After making frozen jam for ourselves and helping Kris and Dan with about 30 pints of jam yesterday, and eating them with cereal, shortcake, angel food, and ice cream (and the number that just find ones mouth during handling,) we'd likely bleed strawberry juice. And raspberries are ready for picking! The weather has been delightful; we need rain. I'm so ready for thunder and lighting. Summer seems to be flying. Thanks for staying in touch. Have a great week. Love you lots.

Love your Blog
Laura...I love your blog. Don't know how you have time to keep it up. I wrote you sometime ago, but sent it by private message. Don't know if you received it or not. What a wonderful experience this trip is for you. Can't tell you happy we are for the opportunity for you. We have been to Ely, MN fishing. (That's an oxymoron...there are no fish in MN.) Also to Colorado for a conference on Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine. Absolutely awesome! Next up is a visit to Kansas City to see Mark, and then to Colleen's wedding in Cedar Rapids. We will miss you terribly. Bet this all sounds pretty mundane to you. Keep up the good work! Love you much, Grandma

Caiman "hunting"???
Woa . . . I'm trying picture the caiman hunting! Leaning over the front of a boat trying to snag a 10+ foot, 1000+ pound, hungry reptile without joining it! I can just hear Marlin Perkins: "while Jim wrestles this black caiman, I'd like to tell you about Mutual of Omaha's latest . . .". :-) I remember always thinking that Marlin got to write their job descriptions. The storm sounds amazing! Sustained thunder must have also meant sustained lightning . . . ack! Hope the Inca Project is exciting too, Tom

Thinking of you
Laura, it's fun to hear from you so regularly! Thank you for taking the time to bring us up to date on what you're doing and thinking. We all enjoy knowing your situation and hearing your stories. I'm struggling NOT to comment on the weather here, but I think it's just a Minnesota thing to do. It's lovely (okay--gave up); not cool, not hot. A little windy, but it keeps the mosquitoes down. I tried today to work on the yard and found myself sitting on the deck looking up at the birds and squirrels in the trees. It's fun to think of you doing the same thing half a world away. We made a trek to the Mississippi on Saturday--the 10-minus-1 Grangaards--but that was NOT the same thing you were up to half a world away. So urban and open and beautiful, but a very different beauty. Yesterday we hiked again. To Lake Como to the Pavilion for a band concert. I think you'd have been a better pianist, though he looked like he was having fun. Swing, Jazz, Dance, Patriotic--they ran the gamut. I like your blog news and it's fun to get the stories from Tim and Karen, too. I look forward to seeing more photos when you're back. We know you're really busy--we're patient. Take Care and stay well. Kris and the rest...

P.S. Not allowed to compare food from anywhere to the Luther Cafeteria! Of course the fruits and plantains will be better in Peru!! I've heard their gastronomy is incredbile. Looking forward to trying it and I"d be super happy if I ate some plaintains. Dont exist here :( And Ceviche bummer you got sick cuz that stuff is amazing!
