I wanted to steal one!
Hi all, Carly here again!

This blog update is currently being written while we make our way down the Mekong River in Loas on a slow boat! Very peaceful and stunning scenery!

Its been left to me to tell you all about the fantastic six nights we have just had in Chiang Mai. Although Thailand's second largest city, Chiang Mai is much smaller than Bangkok and far nicer which made our first day of exploring the city far more enjoyable. However the temperature stayed around 32-34°C so we have had to take our time, Kev had even started calling me slow boat as I'd adopted such a slow walking pace!

There are so many activities do to in Chiang Mai from zip line adventures to massage classes, Kev however wanted to do a cooking course. I'm still not sure how he dragged me (kicking and screaming) to the class but he did. It started with a trip to a market where we were shown the different ingredients we would be cooking with. We were shown 3 types of basil...3!! I thought there was just basil but boy was I wrong! That just shows how little interest I have

in cooking! After that the cooking began. We cooked 4 dishes and made a curry paste. It was surprisingly really enjoyable and easy and I was very surprised at how tasty my food was! I've forgotten it all now though so no cooking for me when I get back!

The next day we headed over to Tiger Kingdom. Its fair to say I was a little nervous at stroking an enormous 18 month old tiger but once you got over the size of them it was just like stroking any other cat, and then I wanted to steal one! Particularly the little 0-3 month old ones! Don't worry Sox and Winston you're still my favourites!

The last activity we did in Chiang Mai was by far the best, we went on an elephant discovery day!! After a bit of research, and having now been to the camp, we believe we found the experience that was best for the elephants. The money raised goes back to caring for the elephants and to the village who care for them, particularly at the moment to help them build a new road to the village. The road they currently use is so

poor and bumpy that the young girl sitting in the front of the car on the way was not wearing a seatbelt and I feared she was going to bounce right out of her open window!

As well as feeling we were helping a good cause we thoroughly enjoyed the day. The people running it were fantastic, even if they kept encouraging us to smoke elephant poop! We got to bathe, feed and ride the elephants. The baby elephant was particularly entertaining, running around stealing bananas from the other elephants and rolling around in the river! As we were riding the baby elephants mother, if the baby wanted to run off the mother chased it, even with us hanging on!

That is pretty much it from Thailand for a couple of months so on crossing the border into Laos we had to withdraw some Laos Kip and instantly became millionaires! We took out 1 million Kip, unfortunately its only worth about £80!

Kev will write the next update, internet permitting and if I can drag him away from the bakeries long enough to write it!
