Ok, so we didn't freeze to DEATH...but it certainly felt like we came close to it. GSIS (Graduate School of International Studies) sponsored a 2-day whitewater rafting trip. We left Ewha at 5:55pm (5 minutes ahead of schedule, which in SK is VERY ahead of schedule. On time usually means 5-10 minutes later! haha) It took us about 2 hours to get there. I will continue to say 'there' because to this day I still don't know exactly where we went. haha How aweful is that?
We arrived at around 8:30 at night. I was exhausted and starved! I hate eating past 7pm but I was so hungry that i was willing to make an exception. We dined on Korean BBQ..mmmm! I ate SO much meat! ...and rice, and something that was like eggs and veggies, and kimchee mmm. It was so delicious! I ate until i couldn't eat anymore. And then I went up for one more helping. Afterwards we dined on Smores! I was so excited. Outside on a chilly night. Making smores at a campfire. I LOVED it! Made me feel like home. After eating all that food I was awake again. And then... the 노래방 started
(no-day-baong) That's Karaoke. After singing like 10 songs my throat hurt and I was ready to go to bed. Plus I had a stomach ache from eating so much food then jumping around and singing like a crazy person.
Sleeping was pretty cool. It was a big room and everyone got a mattress pad, a pillow and a blanket. And you laid on the heated wooden floors to sleep. It was cool. It was weird though walking into your room (for us it was the second floor of the building) and there is NO furnature haha. Crazy but fun! The next morning we were up bright and early for breakfast. Breakfast was...rice, kimchee, mini hotdogs haha Again I ate way more than i should have!
It was chilly but I was confident in my capris and long sleeve T-shirt. I've done rafting enough times before, it's cold in the water but it was gonna be 60 and sunny...I'd stick through the cold. Well unfortunately my forcast was for Seoul. We weren't in seoul. We were in 50 and overcast weather with wind. It was FREEZING. We were all freezing. Now, this statement goes out to ANY Pocono Whitewater
guides that may be reading this...I just want to spread my love for ya'll. You don't realize how good you have it until you go whitewater rafting guided by 6 asians that don't speak english. I could complain about that trip for hours...but im going to keep it into one nice paragraph. First of all, the river was low because its the dry season. So why they decided to pack 11 people in each raft (same size as the regular pocono rafts) two of the people were guides is beyond me. The river was low...there were only 35 of us...put 4 in a raft with one guide each. We got stuck on EVERY rock. And they had no clue how to get us off. They were completely worthless. It was the first time I ever went rafting and was miserable the whole time. They made us get out of our raft and walk along the shore at every rapid saying "people die here, if you fall out of boat, you will die" After walking past the rapid...I just laughed..and continued laughing through the rest of the miserable trip down the river becuase of it all. Man it made me miss pocono!
We went back and defrosted ourselves and warmed up. Lunch was the typical Korean meal... 라면...better known to us as Ramen Noodles. Only theirs is spicy and they put eggs in it..which is super delicious, ya'll MUST try it! We were supposed to have like two hours of 'games" aka stupid ice breaker games that everyone always hates, but we all were chatting and having fun together that they didn't make us go through it ha. We all slept SOLID on the ride home. Outside of the bad rafting, it was a super-fun trip! Definitely worth 40 bucks :-D
