29th April-Today wasn't very exciting....we were given a free day in a city where there wasn't much to see, at the start of which I puked (when will I learn to eat before taking the malaria tablet....they do not like me!) We headed out for lunch at KFC and then a coffee at Starbucks....such westerners! I got dragged along to the War Remnants museum where there were some cool planes and tanks but some horrible stories. The Americans dropped agent orange across Vietnam which disfigured people for generations....there are still people walking around missing limbs. We then caught the overnight train to Nha Trang which was an experience! 4 of us to a room on little bunk beds....quite cute really! When you get used to the rocking it's easy enough to get to sleep.
30th April-So we arrived at our hotel at like 5am where we were obviously too early to check in.....I was not impressed! We were sent to a little room in the back with some bunk beds and sofas. I was lucky and got to go up to the one spare room they had with a couple of the girls for a shower and nap. We then spent the day at a beach party although it rained and was cloudy so we just spent our time under cover eating and boozing! We went with another tour group who were crazy! They were all pissed on the bus back to the hotel and singing cheese....badly! We ventured out to a local sports bar for dinner and I discovered my little rucksack had a big hole in the bottom 😞 so one of the guys fixed it with gaffa tape for me. I'm hoping when we get to somewhere where they make clothes a lady can put some stitches in for me. Tomorrow should be more fun as we're supposed to be going to a special mud bath and mineral springs spa 😊
May 1st--Happy Birthday to my Becky herbs! Xx So today we got a nice lie in (I do love these) and then went off to the spa. We were led to these little tubs that looked like ponds that about 5 of us could fit in and then the mud poured in! It was pretty gross but made your skin feel soft. I had visions of putting thick mud on you and then washing it off but it was quite watery. We then went into some mineral water pools and then on to the normal ones which were really warm. It rained too but we didn't care. I then decided to have my first Asian massage.....now this was an experience! It started off normally but then I realised I couldn't see her feet on the floor and she started to walk up and down my back...so strange! Then she sat on my bum whilst she finished massaging my back. They make you wear these funny short things which to my shock they pull down and massage your bum! Ah! I think my back is slightly bruised....they even click it! And your fingers and toes.
After our spa day there was a que for the shower back at the hotel as we no longer had rooms....I even had to pack my fresh laundry in the reception area...I mean what is the world coming to? So we had our second overnight train which was a step down from our first 😞 it smelled like bins and had mice. I didn't even put my backpack on the floor. We just ate biscuits and cheese and drank wine like true Europeans! 😊 A couple of people were smoking weed out of the toilet window....I felt left out lol!
2nd May-So we arrived at our hotel in Hoi An (I thought we were in Hanoi lol) and again rooms weren't ready as we were early 😞 so off we went to explore the town and stop off at the tailor shop for people who wanted suits and dresses etc. I kind of wanted something made but didn't see the point just for the sake of it. It seems like people are better off in Vietnam...you don't see people begging like Cambodia and it seems more tidy. Also I don't know if I mentioned it before but there are rules for crossing the roads in Vietnam! If you wait for a gap in the traffic then you'll be waiting all day so you just have to cross the road and the bikes just go around you....little bit scary! When we got back to the hotel we checked in and spent the afternoon by the pool....we have to take advantage of these as we don't know when our next one will be! We went out that evening for what's known as street food....so we basically had food on a small table with benches on the side of the road...cheap and cheerful! I feel a bit like an old lady on this trip as when people are off to bars I'm off home to bed with my donut off a little lady in the street. It doesn't help that most places don't have our music that I can shake it to. I finally got to Skype my sis again tonight as we hadn't spoken for like 3 or 4 days so I was having withdrawals from seeing her face 😞
3rd May-Today was fun 😊 we got up for breakfast and then popped to the spa for a pedicure. I mean who needs to go to a cooking class or assailing? I just couldn't live without painted toes any longer! So my nice red is now back! I then had a little snooze as I knew we'd be off exercising in the afternoon. I decided that I'm not losing any weight like I thought I would and may be borderline gaining it so was going to start skipping lunch...I caved and ate chips or French fried as they say over here. I mean what's wrong with a salad? We went on a 10k cycling tour of Hoi An and stopped half way to see some water buffaloes....we even had a ride on one. He didn't quite wanna bring me back so we did a u turn and then tried again. The guy who was with us was so funny! Kept singing and standing up on him. When Cheryl had her go the man gave her the reigns and he took off and started running...hilarious! Could only happen to her. One of the guys never learned how to ride a bike properly when he was little but fair play to him he got on and did it....even if he was a bit wobbly. We then had a little trip across the river with our bikes on the boat and a watermelon snack. Meal out in a nice restaurant in the evening and then a bar for cocktails. We met some nice Aussies who are out here working so that was fun. When we got back to the hotel (after 12 might I add) there was no one at the desk when we went to get our key....so we peered over and found the guy sleeping on a little camp bed...so funny!
