Hello everyone! We Arrived in Da Nang on mon 30th after having spent 12 hrs on the bus and once again found we had no accommodation (not our fault...they double booked!) After eventually sorting out our hostel we spent the next 3 days just chilling out on Da Nang beach. Its a really stunning beach but really nothing else to do there. So we left thursday afternoon for a killer 26 hr bus journey!!! On the way we saw our first cockroach (dead luckily!) boy was it HUGE! And mastered the art of peeing in a hole!

Arrived in Saigon on fri evening and couldn't believe how different it was to everywhere else we've seen in Vietnam. A real city atmosphere, pretty modern with lots of bars and restaurants.
The first couple of days here we just wondered around having a good old barter at the markets and had a city tour.

Today we visited the cu chi tunnels. On the way there we stopped off at cao dai temple and saw them having some random ceremony which they do four times a day! Lots of chanting and ringing bells but couldn't actually what at!
The cu chi tunnels were really interesting our guide was a war veteran so it was fasinating listening to him and actually seeing where a large number of battles were fought in the jungle and how the vietnamese were so resourceful with what little they had! He showed us some traps that they used on the americans...you really wouldn't wanna come across one of those!
Then came the part that Chris had been looking forward to the most.....firing an AK47 machine gun. (It must be a man thing!) It was so loud! Really weird thinking that is what they heard all day everyday, very surreal. Apparently you can do it in cambodia but at cows mmm nice!
Then it was tunnel time unfortunately sarah was the first one in our group 2 go down and halfway had a major claustraphobic attack! Seriously those tunnels are TINY and go deeper and deeper. And we went in the big ones! So everyone had 2 back out again so she could get out......bit embarrassing to say the least!

We're really loving it here in Saigon and have met lots of fellow travellers with interesting tales. Next stop is Cambodia. We leave here on wednesday morning and

in tunnels
Glad im not the only one in the family who gets fear of enclosed spaces.......And I hate those wriggly black insects in one of your pics- I spent one holiday in Crete surrounded in them........ apart from that sounds like you're having a brill time. I've been dragging your dad to see round houses in Worthing ,as am thinking of moving.sounds boring compared to your adventures. keep having fun xx
