On Boat
Sarah pulling a funny face! We arrived in Hanoi on tuesday evening, the taxi ride from the airport to our hostel was an experience to remember!here there is only one road rule...honk your horn to let people know ur coming its crazy!crossing the road is also a mission...zebra crossings and green lights dont mean a thing! Started off with a tour of Hanoi City on wednesday. Saw Ho Chi Minh's Mummy and went round his gaff!
Saw the famous one pilar pagoda then onto the temple of literature and saw the budahist temple where the head budahist teacher lived and recently died. Its Vietnemese Liberation day from the 30th to the 2nd of may so loads of people were turning up to see 'uncle ho'due to his role in the liberation of vietnam.
On Wednesday we met up with Wilcs and Yummi! which was very sureal in the middle of vietnam! Had a fantastic lunch(vegitarians would struggle out here!)and then we went to visit hanoi prison which was built by the french in the resistance and also used to hold american pilots....very creepy!
On thursday morning we were picked up first thing by bus to spend the night on a boat in Ha Long Bay. It
Uncle Ho's house on stilts
this is where he lived and died was absoloutely stunning!!Its a protected world heriatage site,we were told you have not visited vietnam till u have been here....we now realise why!The photos don't do it justice. We stopped off to visit the 'suprising cave'would have been a great experience except for the heards of people and the very slippery steep steps! After getting back on the boat and having vietnemese lunch(yum!)a while later as the sun was setting we anchored at a floating fish market and went kayaking around the bay!its amazing how these people live and work on the sea(see pic!) Before dinner sarah decided to haggle to local little girl for some cheap beers!!!and very nice it was 2!
Its now sunday and we are off 2 Da Nang(The City of Beaches!)catching the overnight bus....should be interesting!
So far Vietnam has been a fantastic experience and the people here are welcoming and friendly(especially our pineapple lady!)
