Finally after a long brutal and excruciating flight from Toronto, we arrived at Ho Chi Minh City, which was the old Saigon... I remember leaving Canada really cold so I was really excited on our trip to a warm country such as Vietnam...
So we got up and did our usual airport routine, we waited till our luggae arrive in that conveyer just like everyone else standing and staring what seemed like an endless belt carrying people's precious belongings around and around... all everyone can do really is to cross their fingers and hope the next luggage that comes out of that hole is yours.... if you really think about it, it's a surprise... and how awesome would it be if your luggae is ever the first one to come out... but of course that never really happens....
So as we walk through the Ho Chi Minh airport anticipating to see what's outside and how good warm air feels like... We saw a man carrying a sign with our names... realizing its our personal driver in our whole vacay... we quickly hurried outside the airport to meet... as soon as we hit that door, we were welcomed with warm,
humid air.... ok correction very hot + high humid air.... for a second there it came in like a shock, a punch in the face... as I was hoping for warm nice breeze I was slapped with humidity.... I had a hard time breathing... not that I had any problems with my lungs it was just that morbidly hot....
So I thought to myself.... 'Vietnam! Here I am!' .... I was ready to face all the adventures ahead of me... well at least until the next day, it was 11pm when we arrived in the city. As we were being driven towards my friend's aunt's house, I quickly noticed something about Ho Chi Minh... almost every 5-10km you see a flag hanging by the pole or light post... I find it very interesting.... just when I thought Americans are patriotic... look at the Vietnamese!
The next day driving around the city, feeling its ambience and relaxing at their dirt cheap, really decent spas... I was already have an amazing day to start...
To cross the streets is like to have an immediate heart attack.... mopeds everywhere and everyone seems to be in a hurry.... I have not
seen how much people can fit in one tiny reg moped and even how much sack of bananas or boxes can fit right behind the driver.... mopeds as small as they are they dominate the city.... they have 'balls'.... they would cut the bus, challenge the traffic inches away from big trucks... and so on... I could say so much but it won't fit this blog... or at least you would be reading till tom. but it's very inspiring in a way.... most people are not too shallow when it comes to luxury cars... weather from a young person to the oldest residence of Ho Chi Minh.... they're riding this form of transportation like a pro....
Ho Chi Minh has that feeling of a struggling developing city.... but it's clean and safe... people don't hussle you for change or to purchase their merchandise... they are very chill people... very chill people and what else can I say the food are amazing! A city that's definetely worth to see and experience....
Only at Saigon
