Goodbye Phnom PenhGoodbye Phnom PenhGoodbye Phnom Penh

A busy street
We woke up early on Day 4 to do some last minute shopping at the Russian Market before boarding our 09:00 bus to Ho Chi Minh. Had our signature Cambodian breakfast of yaucharkwai and coffee. Though we have not gone on much of a phood adventure while in Cambodia, it appears to us that the Khmers like their food sweet. The lady who sat next to us during breakfast confirmed this by scooping a tablespoon full of sugar into her bowl of beef noodles >.< Did not buy much. Haggling can be tiring and time consuming. Rushed back to check-out / return bike / catch a moto go Capitol Cafe and boarded bus just in time 😊 *phewf*

The 8 hour bus ride, again, was uneventful. But managed to take some interesting pictures along the way.

Immigration checkpoints at both Bavet exit and Moc Bai entry was smooth. Though there was this one weird looking fellow traveller who looked he has travelled round the world for the past year (and smells like he hasn't taken a shower since he left home...) I had to inch away every time I sniffed his near presence at the checkpoints. No offence but

Crossing the river
he could have used a few trips to the shower and a bottle of Johnson & Johnson's baby powder :P

We arrived Ho Chi Minh City late afternoon, still bright enough to walk around to scout for accomodation. There weren't as many touts as Phnom Penh, and we soon found ourselves in Pham Ngu Lao, the backpackers area in District 1. Found that most guesthouses were fully booked (oh no!) checked out a few dodgy guesthouses along the alleys and finally found one clean and decent one for USD8/day called "NGA" run by a family who also sells beansprouts (the horror!)

After changing some (okay not some, but a lot of) DONGS, rented a motorbike (Adventurous are we? hehe...) and settled out to look for a prepaid mobile and headed out to Ben Thanh Market where we had dinner nearby and did some shopping at the night market.
