Sorry...can't stop showing you my backyard as I am one lucky ducky! Well......had my first accident/ incident the other day which, even though it had to happen sooner or later, was quite scarey. Now I must tell you first that everything here is just a suggestion Eg green and red traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, motorbike helmets and dogs. Anyway, back to my drama...I was cruising through a green light, as you do in nearly every other country, about 5 seconds into it (the light tells you how much time you have left in seconds and I still had about 15 if my Maths is correct 'cause it's usually 20 seconds) when a motorbike came at me from the left, full bore and hit my front tyre full on (Did I mention that I ride a Deadly Treddly bicycle?). Obviously my guardian angel hitched a ride with me to Vietnam because I managed to stay on as he took off even though my shoulder was jarred pretty hard. It now matches my other dodgy shoulder.
As I said, everything here is merely a suggestion and should be treated with skepticism and trepidation if you wish to stay healthy. The white stripes on the pedestrian crossings are slightly raised and run across the road

Keep forgetting to photograph food! This is the remnants of some steamed calamari that my beautiful neighbours delivered over the fence. I keep telling them that they are making me fat! rather than parallel as the do in Australia. This is apparently to slow traffic but no one has told the drivers this. Red lights mean nothing if you're in a hurry 'cause you can just drive through them. You can even drive the wrong way down a road or highway if so inclined. I did it the other day coming back from Cat's (another volunteer) place with my washing in my basket on a four lane highway.
Dogs also are another suggestion. We automatically prefer to think of them as pets but that's not necessarily so either. It saddens me to think by how many of the canine population was culled for Tet (Vietnamese New Year).
Last weekend was my first ever attempt at Karaoke. Eric, Gill and I went with Tao (staff at LSF), Nhung ( a maker) and another young Vietnamese girl, Lieu who I picked up when her Mum, Tien was calling a taxi for me. She was home from college for Tet and jumped at the chance to come to Karaoke with me....must be my motherly image ;-) The karaoke rooms here are in hotels and are like private lounges. They have comfy sofas

I gave my neighbours on the other side a packet of coloured rice (thanks George!) and they are growing it on my patio. and a huge coffee table set out like a minibar with nuts, fruit, chips, ice bucket and as we were all drinking beer, a slab! At the end, they charge you for anything that you've consumed and rental for the room. Hilarious....even I sang! Everyone else was so much more polished than me though. I'll have to brush up on my mike voice!
The weather here is absolutely perfect now. Apparently we should enjoy this before it becomes hot and humid. The water is now crystal clear....complete opposite to a few weeks ago when it was still brown and choppy. Hard work walking on the beach though as even the wet sand is very soft...should have pins of steel after my stint here what with cycling everywhere and soft sand walks. Can only hope.

Wish I was there!!
Love reading your blog and hope all is OK after your 'dice with death' (another one better than any ride at Dreamworld hey?) Let Nhung know she looks real professional behind that microphone I see Eric there as well. The ornamental rice looks good on your patio - surprised it grew.
