A little romance! How romantic are mosquito nets? Hey? Last time I had a mosquito net, I must've been about 4 and they were pretty standard in the day. You never see them anymore as most people either have ceiling fans or air con. Now, I have one and it wasn't really a choice if I want to have my one and only window open at night. But it does remind me that I'm living in sub-tropics......oh wait! I did before also! Anyway the weather is warming up about as fast as the mossies are breeding. I do have air conditioning but am loathe to use it....for whatever reason.
My four days a week at Lifestart Foundation are now filled with lots of different duties which makes volunteering fun. Two times a week I help out at Hoi An Shelter, a homeless shelter for the neglected, forgotten, disabled (some physically and some mentally) but the people I interact with are amazing and I'm pretty sure I make a difference in their day by the reactions I get when I arrive. Very heartwarming!
I also now help make lanterns for sale in the shop and some rings are made by me. If sold,
these provide straight profit to the charity to be used in helping underprivileged children usually. Anyway, my days are filled with diverse activities and I'm really enjoying sharing my time with all the beautiful Vietnamese people that I do. Feeling good!
Was ruminating today about my stress free lifestyle and came to the conclusion that the simpler your lifestyle is, the less stress you have. I have very basic furniture and utensils, a bicycle as transport and clean water to drink. I also have the kindest, most generous neighbors on either side who look out for me and assume that I'm starving all the time, as they keep feeding me or giving me fresh eggs.
Decided to show off my culinary skills to my neighbors tonight and made them a beetroot dip. Kate (another volunteer) kindly blended up some cooked beetroot for me which I mixed with chopped mint, some yoghurt which was slightly sweet(eeww), lime juice to get rid of the sweetness and chopped chargrilled cashews (Yummmmm!) served with Bun Trang which is a huge flat rice cracker that's addictive. Hope they like it. Can only do what I can with my limited ingredients/utensils.
Busy booking

It looks like a gun emplacement from the war, similar to the ones on Moreton Island.
