After a long day (138km) I finally arrive in Nha Trang, it's just starting to get dark and the traffic is really busy so I slow my speed down and take my time navigating to the hotel I plan on staying in. The first sights are magical, there's a real festive feel here still with lights everywhere, the bridge coming in is blue's and red's and way in the distance I spot what looks like half a dozen Eifel Towers? I head through the Happy New Year signs and manage to find my hotel before darkness sets in so I'm quite relieved, I give the bike a quick wash down and dry off before putting it away for a few days.
So I manage to meet up with Michelle which is the reason I tried to get here quickly, she had a bit of an accident on the motorbike but I'm relieved to see she's looking much better than I thought, plus a new man into the bargain. I joined them for dinner and my first wander around Nha Trang and although I had heard it was full of Russians, now I'm here it most definitely is, even loads of the signs are all in Russian! Weird.
Thankfully the weather is good the next few days so I hang out on the beach and enjoy a bit of sun with Michelle and Donald and they're good company… it's freezing at home (not like I'm trying to make anyone jealous)! I cycle around for a few days and even though I don't go on the cable car to Vinpearl I enjoy watching it, this is what looked like Eiffel Towers on the way in. It's one of the longest cable cars in the world, and it is an impressive sight, but I don't fancy spending a fortune to go over for a day, so instead I head out to Po Nagar towers at the mouth of the Cai River which is the way I came into Nha Trang.
Po Nagar is a Cham Temple which dates back to the 12th century and I enjoy not only exploring but I was entertained to beautiful traditional dance and music which lasted around 30 minutes, I was really impressed and the ladies dancing were stunning. It's a great place for a view over Nha Trang at the other side of the river and is really peaceful so I sit a while and enjoy the outlook. I like being out at the sea and somewhere I can relax and enjoy the beaches, nothing like a wee walk along the shore in the morning, love it!
There's great seafood BBQ'd on the beach or on the surrounding streets which is to die for… I love the way they are mobile, once they've sold they move on, it really is amazing to watch. But this is Vietnam and it seems to be the way of their business, mobile, stopping where and when required, really interesting to watch.
Kim and Lars who I met with Michelle up in Da Lat come down to Nha Trang for a few days before heading north, and once again we have some lovely time together with nice food and good conversation... really nice people and I enjoy having the company.
So time to move further down the coast which is meant to be stunning, especially Mui Ne, and all the way down to Saigon… happy trails.
