Not much going on!
Two little kids watching us fix the bikes So I'm still in Thailand... been trying to leave for awhile but I keep finding places I like. After Bangkok Mick, Conor and I headed for Kanchanaburi... spent about five days there. We when to see the tiger temple and get our really touristy photos with the tigers... I managed to find a female tiger who was in heat and in a cage... I thought it would be fun to pet the tiger with a piece of paper ... upon seeing me approach the cage the tiger jumped at the cage the tried to paw me... that scared the shit out of me, although a minute later I regained my composer and tried again... I've got a good video! We also got pictures on the bridge over the river kwai. Went to a monkey school... saw a monkey shout a basketball. But I think the best was the Erawan waterfalls.. it has seven different tiers of falls and all our amazing. To get to the seventh fall you climb about 2km... but it goes by fast because every five minutes you arrive at another amazing waterfall. We went for a dip in most of them... may favorite was the seventh... I
Town Bridge
Nice little bridge into town climbed up through the fall! On our last night we met some locals at a bar and went fishing and drinking at 5am off a bridge into the kwai! After Kanchanaburi we headed up to Chiang Mai... arrived in Chiang mai on the morning of the 30th after a long bus journey from Kanchanaburi via Bangkok. Signed up for a trek with the guest house we were staying at... we picked the more expensive tour because it went to non-touristic hill tribes... it cost about $50cdn for three days and included everything. Checked out the sunday market in Chiang Mai... pretty cool but a lot of the same as Bangkok... that did stop my t-shirt addicted traveling buddy from buying another 5. Tried to find some good deals on Jade but found that most of it was fake. Monday we headed off on our trek... we had a good group of 13... on the way to the trail the truck broke down... not a good start but we were back on the road in an hour. We trekked about 4hours on the first day... we stopped at a hill tribe for lunch and then at a waterfall and finished the
Looking Good!
Me posing in from of the bike...now i can tell the girls I'm a dirtbiker! trek at about 6pm just before the rain started. We stayed in a one room bamboo hut high up in the hills... had some good food for dinner... then we sat around drinking thai rum and beer and telling stories... good fun! Day two we woke up to rain and it stay for most of the trek... it was nice to have the rain cause it kept us cool. The trek was about 4.5 hours and very slippery... especially since I was wearing flip flops. After the long trek we took a rest and let the elephants do the walking for a while... that's right elephants... I sat on the elephants head for about an hours... not that comfortable! We stayed with a hill tribe on the second night... did some dancing with them... drank and had a laugh. The weather was still shit the last day... we didn't have to walk to far before we were picked up by a truck and taken to the bamboo rafting place. Mick, Conor and I were on a raft together and were determined to be the first ones to finish... well I was! Unfortunately we had the worst guide... he kept falling
The Guide
My wicked trail guide in the river. But the best proof of his incompetence was when it run our raft into a mound of land in the middle of the river. The raft got stuck on the land... I had to break the raft into two and then left one half over the land so we could get going again. We then had to lay across the two pieces to kept it from falling apart. The only good thing was all the other group stopped there raft to see if we were ok... once we where going we floated past them and made it to the end first! It was a very good trek and we had the best guide named Map. That night we had a really good party in Chiang Mai. Spent another couples days in Chiang Mai... Conor and I went to a thai cooking school... really fun! Next we headed of to Pai... got pretty drunk our first night in Pai... what a surprise! We really didn't do much the next couple days. I was disappointed about how little of Pai beautiful scenery I had seen so, I decided to go on the dirt bike trip! For about $75cdn I
Small creak
It does look like much but it was sleep on the other side got a Honda 250, all the protective gear, lunch and a wicked guide. We took off in the hills behind Pai for a 6.5 hours trip. My lack of experience showed... I laid the bike down a couple times... but the terrain was pretty steep and very slippery. We had lunch at a very cool hill tribe that doesn't see very many white people... the little kids were scared of me. After lunch we had a few breakdowns on both of our bikes... had to change the spark plug on his bike. The breakdown just added to the adventure... by the time we got back to Pai I was well satisfied! Well that's it... taking the bus to Laos in two days...it will be nice to get somewhere different... the north of Thailand is better then the south... expect for the sun... I miss the sun!
