Something for those English speakers amongst you...
We have had a great rtime in Thailand so far. nWe started in Bangkok, arranging a two week holiday for Lelde's Mu
m and friends, then it was a whirl-wind time as we wined and dined and flopped on beaches- a group of 8. After looking around Bangkok, we all headed south to the beach near Krabi. Amazing cliffs and water like a warm bath! We also tried a bit of snorkelling here. In Thailand thgere are many living reefs- colourful and teeming with fish- as compared to the coast of Vietnam, where the corals were grey, with the smallest of fish.
We then hopped to the West
Forget the name of this place.
It was on our boiat trip from Ao Nang, Krabi. coast to visit Koh Phangan. We were on a quiet spot with a small lagoon and beach. On Koh Phangan, we did more snorkelling and even got around to Bottle Beach for a day, to relax on a long stretch of sand. We learnt the virtues of Seven Eleven- our link to the outside world and source of beer and comfort( this US chain is everywhere in Thailand). Phangan is a seriuosly mountainous island, and the road trips in the island were hair raising- we went around perched on the benches in the back of a minivan at what seemed like 70mph!
Next we took a ferry to Koh Tao, where diving seems to be the main pastime. This was our last stop with Lelde's family and it had good food and good bars. Five of us did a whole day snorkelling trip[ around the diminutive island, and the titlte of this blog came from the way I felt when not in the water. For me, the time spent with all the Latvians really felt like we were on holiday and not just travelling- a time to relax.
The Latvians all returned home via Bangkok(only 11 weeks until
Fire spinner
We watched this guy materfully and slowly spinning fire pai from the UV splendour of the bar. we join them- we've just confirmed our flights back from Bali in June- something I'm pleased about 'cos I've been bending Lelde's ear/arm concerning going as far as Indonesia) and we headed for a quick stop for the full moon party- on Koh Phangan wow what a party- the one beach in the South of the island sees as many as 30,000 vistors for the night long event. I ended up going without Lelde- we actually thought it might be a huge let down with all the comercialism and hipe surrounding it. I must say I had a great time as, in the company of a dudey South Korean guy, I danced all night and sampled the ubiquitous "bucket" a leathally strong, cheap cocktail that comes in a little plastic container with a handle. There was good Trance( perhaPS THE pSY TRANce is more spaced-out and longer sustained at home, but still happy) as well as a large selection of other types of music.
Then we went hastily North, spending two nights on sleeper trains.
Channgmai, the northern capitol was quite and packed with temples We're not up to trekking right now so we've come to a small place called
Pai for some " nothing doings". It's a sleepy place within a ring of mountains- the road here was steep and winding.
