Our first bungalow
This is the view from the door of the first bungalow which I stayed at... It was a bumpy 13hour bus ride to Bangkok, I arrived there pretty late but joined up with 3 Aussies to hunt for accomodation on Khao San Road and ended up sharing a room with Dieter, a guy from Sydney.
My plan wasn't to stay very long in Bangkok, I didn't have long in Thailand and wanted to head south to the islands. I had enough time for a nightout with the Aussies and the next day I set off on the 18 hour bus & boat journey to Koh Phangan.
To be honest I wasn't sure what to expect in Koh Phangan, It's famous for the Full-Moon Party which isn't really my thing. In the end I ended up doing next to nothing with my time in Thailand, just relaxing! I wouldn't normally have much to write about but a few interesting things happened there and I did really enjoy the relaxed, carefree atmosphere.
When I arrived on the Island I headed to a random bungalow to see what it was like. There I met a Swede who was also named Daniel (Lucky for me because i'm crap with names!) and we joined up and shared a

Same view but in the evening... beach front bungalow to save money.
That evening we decided to rent out a motorbike to explore the island, the roads on the island are pretty hilly and covered in sand. I wasn't too keen on crashing and by all accounts Daniel was an expert on motorbikes so I let him ride.....It took him 10 metres to nearly put us both in a ditch!!....I rode the rest of the way and when it got dark we headed back.
The next day we got two bikes and decided to explore more, but first we went for breakfast. Whilst eating we heard a scream as a girl trying to climb a steep hill on her rented bike nearly crashed and badly burnt her leg on the exhaust. She came over and was a bit shaken up. I headed back to the bunglaow and grabbed my first aid kit to patch her up before we headed off to go and see some waterfalls which were meant to be good. On the way we followed a guy and after a while I heard a big slide and crash, looking in my mirror I saw that Daniel had fallen from his bike! I'm not
Thats gotta hurt!
This is my foot after I had cleaned it up a little and pulled some stones out!! sure how he fell but he broke the break lever and grazed his hand. Pretty lucky actually!....Anyway, we continued to the waterfall and it was a big dissappointment, I don't think it had rained for a while, or maybe after you've been trekking in the Himalayas it takes a big waterfall to impress. We headed back and Daniel nearly came off his bike again! I guess he wasn't the expert he made out he was!
Our aim for the rest of the day was to find a better bungalow to stay at, ours were very quiet and a bit out of the way. It tends to be the case in Asia that you don't find the accomodation, the accomodation finds you! This proved to be the case again. Whilst stopping for fuel a woman called over to us asking where we were heading, we told her we were trying to find some bungalows to stay and she told us to follow! Her bungalows were great, we got one right by a beautiful beach and at the same price as we were paying before. One problem was that we had already paid for our night at the other bungalows and

This is the view from the door of my second bungalows. If you can put up with the huge cockroaches (Free with the room) and the 2m Python that found its way into the Bungalows (Not mine thank god!) then your in paradise! we didn't want to waste our money...No problem, she let us stay free for the first night!
That night Daniel & I agreed to go dancing with Run (The woman sorted us the bungalow) and her sister. We headed to Haad Rin and we stayed there quiet late. When it was time to head back Daniel was too drunk to ride his bike. Run didn't want to take him back because she found it hard with him on the back of her bike earlier in the day with him sober. I didn't really want to take him back eitherbut I couldn't leave him so we set off. He kept nearly falling off and eventually the inevitable happened...he fell and took both myself and the bike down with him! Luckily we weren't really moving at the time! Both of us would have been fine if it wasn't for the fact that the bike landed on my ankle and dragged it over little stones! I really wasn't best pleased and I had to spend the next hour trying to clean my foot and pulling little stones from my ankle!...It wasn't easy either, I'd used all my good first aid bandages on

A view from the restaurant where I spent most my time chilling! the girl earlier!....As you can see from the photos, my foot didn't look great!
So the next day I spent some time in the doctors, having him dig tweezers deep into my ankle to search for stones (Its hurt a lot!). After cleaning it up and bandaging it, I left with antibiotics and cream and was told to clean and bandage it daily.
That night I was due to go and get something to eat with Run, she got a phone call and it turned out she had to go to a funeral reception instead...She invited me along and I ended up at this reception with hundreds of Thais and just we!
In Thailand they celebrate deaths and it was great fun! We ate good food, drank and gambled with everyone else. I did stick out like a sore thumb but who cares!
The next day I did what I had been doing pretty much everyday in Thailand....Nothing! All I did during my days on the island is sleeping, eating and reading!
That evening I went with Run to some Thai Boxing, the national sport here. It was good fun and they really must go through some
Dopey Daniel!
He had a kind heart but just didn't have too much going on between the ears! pain when they are kicking the crap out of each other using mainly their shins and elbows! Run also told me that she has had a few fights there.
On the way back we both had a traditional massage...Give me 10 rounds of the boxing anyday!...They seriously make every bone in your body crack and I came out feeling worse! I thought a massage was meant to be relaxing, maybe i'll just have a head massage next time!
I had another predictable next day of doing nothing much! In the evening I went out for some food with Run & I headed out to a bar alone to watch the footy. On the way back I arrived at a really bad accident. Some guy was laying in a ditchand his wife was trying frantically to wake him by screaming his name. I was the first there and it didn't take a rocket scientist to realise this was pretty bad! The guy was unconscious, not breathing too well, he had a badly broken leg and as I realised later a gashed head. Having done a 4 day first aid course I was no expert but realised that he needed
The Owner!
This is Run, the owner of the bungalows and loads of fun, she can also kickbox and you wouldn't mess! to be in the recovery position, I put him that way and pulled his tongue clear of his throat. A few more people arrived on the scene and after the ambulance arrived we helped get him into the back. I then went back to a local bar and washed the blood from my hands before having another beer and watching some more footy!
Motorbikes are seriously dangerous in Thailand!!!
Oh I forgot to mention the creepy crawlies that we had in the Bungalows!... Each night when you got back and turned on the light you had to witness about 3 or 4 giant cockroaches darting from your bed down the sides of it!! Not really what you want to see, but luckily my bed had a mosquito net so I kept them away with that and slept pretty well!! I hate to think what was crawling over Daniel's face at night!...We also had a visitor in the other Bungalows at night... a 2m long Python, I'm so glad it didn't get into my room!
The rest of my time in Thailand was spent chilling out and once I arrived back in Bangkok I did some serious clothes
Best Bungalows In Town!
Looks cool...best thing is you get these every night! shopping! T-Shirts for a quid and Diesel Jeans for a Tenner! Can't be bad!
I really enjoyed Thailand, it wasn't the same experience that Cambodia was but its a great place to relax and recharge the batteries. Next stop is a day in Singapore and then onto Bali to meet Lingy and Marlow....
