We thought we would do a quick update today since we needed a computer to transfer all of our 600 pictures to cd so we can take some more. 600!! I admit there not all great but at least we have a good record of what has happened so far because my memory is terrible.
So we left Hua Hin yesterday morning and took the bus to Pranburi. The bus was great, and by that i mean really old and made out of that material they use to make props at the theatre. It looks like metal but you dont want to test it out with a crash. I love it. Proper rickety old bangers. It adds to the atmosphere. So we got to Pranburi and jumped on a Sangthaew ( pick up truck) to Bang Pu, which is a village within the national park. The guy told us he wanted 40 Baht for the trip, which is very cheap but fair enough if thats what he asked for. So about 40 minutes later we arrive and he starts asking for 400 hundred. Yeah, ok, once again. We are getting a bit wise to this now so refused to
pay him his four hundered but to be honest 400 is only 6 quid and it was a long way so we gave him 200. If he had just said that in the first place we would have paid it. That is all that bothers us really the fact that they try to con it out of you rather than asking up front.
So once we arrived in Bang Pu it is a 20 minute steep trek up a mountain side over the edge of a cliff that juts into the sea preventing you from walking along the beach to Hat Laem Sala. This is no easy trek when you are carrying the bag pack, in mid day heat, up steep stairs for 20 minutes. Well we made it, totally drenched in sweat and dead flies where we had been smacking em against our skin. You have to love it really. This is what we came for (partly! ha).
On the other side side of the cliff is a beautiful bay backed by the edge of tropical forest that climbs up the hills and cave faces behind the beach. There were palm trees lining the edge of the
sand and going back about 50 metres towards the hills. Cocunuts lay along the paths where they had either fell or been knocked out of the palms. It felt we had just arrived on a desert island. Amongst the palm trees were the bungalows and toilets blocks, restaurant and park rangers office that made up the small resort of the bay. We headed to the office and arranged to rent one of the tents for 150 baht. We almost bottled it and went for the bungalow but there was none spare anyway so we had no choice!
The park guys put the tent up for us and then we went to the restaurant for a bit of dinner. While we were sat eating, the rain started. This rain was ruthless. Pounding down, thundering and lightning. All the time Me and Donna were having the obvious conversation - 'I hope our tent is ok' - 'Yes it will be fine dont worry'. Ha, maybe not. When we got back the rain cover had blo0wn off and we had a 10cm deep puddle in the bottom of the tent. Nightmare! We had our bags with everything in there and really thought
the worst. Luckily it turned out most of our clothes were not that wet, thanks to the hard back of our bags. But still the tent was soaked. Now i will put Donna on;-)
Hello everyone, well our tent was like a paddling pool so we grabbed a guy who worked there as a park ranger and tried to explain what had happened and that it was their fault for not putting the water proof cover on properly. Anyway he walked off and said he would be 5mins and we thought that he would be bringing us another tent. But guess what?? He didnt, instead he gave Laurie a tea towel and asked him to wipe up all the water and gave us 2 mats to sleep on which were a little thicker than towels. Lauries face was a picture and he knelt over soaking water on this little towel and wringng it outside the tent. After a while it was sort of dry so we put our stuff back in and made a little clothes horse out of a tree which i was proud of (see mum sending me to brownies when i was younger paid off haha)
So we went for a beer and watched the lovely view and made some knew canine friends that were full of fleas and loved sitting next to us. Apparently the buddhists do not believe in killing animals so there are lots of strays walking around.
All the thais were heading back to there bungalows and tents and the shop was closing so we got some water and beers and headed back to camp. We spent the night drinking a few bottles and playing rummie and i won 10-7 Yesss!!!! i have to beat him he beats me at table football and pool.
After that we had a little walk on the beach which was so peaceful, the peace only lasted til we tried going to sleep in the tent which was horrible. So sweaty and all condensation dripping off the walls and i was so paranoid that there was bugs in the tent. We took it in turns fanning each other with a fan i bought in china, and really got no sleep at all as there was group of thais singing and having a bonfire right outside our tent.
This morning as soon as it
went light i was up and went and sat on the beach and drunk some water and had a ciggie then i had the lovely task of waking Laurie up which was not fun as he was a right grump as he had had a rubbish sleep. When he eventually got up we went for some brekkie and went on a trek to a cave where the kings hundreds of years ago used to visit. The walk up to the cave was nice. A bit steep given we hadn't slept but struggled on through the flys and slippy steps and eventually got to the downhill section which leads you into the cave itself. It was pretty impressive actually neither of us had been anywhere quite like that before. You can see fropm the picture what its like although its hard to show the size of it because you cannot photograph it all at one. On the way back we saw monkeys in the trees. Unfortunately we didnt manage to get photos as they dissapeared when you got too close. There was a sign with the name of the species though we cant remember what it was! Apparantly they are an
endagered species are quite shy but it is was good to see them in the wild.
Well after the last 24 hours we were very sweaty as there were no shower blocks at the bay, so we couldnt face travelling into the unkown as we normally do as it can take quite a lot of effort to find somewhere to stay and get some decent food so we decided to head back to Hua Hin. So here we are again back in an internet cafe in Hua Hin. Washed, changed and ready to go again tomorrow. We are heading down the coast to Chumphon (probably) and then on to Ko Tao where we will do the PADI Diving course. Not too sure about internet connnections for next few days but we will back again as soon as we can. Take Care x
