Hope everyone got over our last blog, I didnt realize how long it was till I posted it.
Coming back to Thailand was almost like coming home. We flew to Phuket from Bangkok , arriving into phuket airport at 10.30pm , it was like a gong show getting a cab to kamala. But after a few hours we finally managed to get theRE. I had booked online a place to stay this one time. from previous experience i knew the accomodation was hard to find. "Sabrina's guest house"suprisingly they were up waiting for us. We both crashed right a way , it was a long day from Bali leaving this morning at 9.00 am.
The next day was spent walking the beach, shopping and hanging around the guest house. We booked a tour to James Bond Island in Ao Phang-Nga for the next day. The tour consited of a stop at Suwankuha temple (reclyning Budha) then to the Phang-nha pier to take a long tail boat through a mangrove forest and sight seeing around Phang-nha bay. we had lunch at Panyee island a Muslin village of 2000 people (amazing race one of the last leg of the race was
filmed in 2011) and finished at Khao Ping Kan (James Bond Island) famous for where they filmed " the man with the golden gun" back in th 70's. I had done the tour last year and really enjoyed it, it was great to share it with Sean this time.
The followind day in Phuket was spent going from beach to beach on our rented scooter, and the winner is Karon beach , the sand is so soft is feels like flour and the water sparkles blue. runner up is kata.
we booked our boat ride to ko phi phi for 7.00 am for 400 bht. we wanted to get there early enought to get a room. as its there busiest time and we heard the island was full. Right they were. there was not much available , even at 10.00 am. There is 2 or 3 tourist hotel reservation desks as soon as you get off the pier, and the only place they found us in our budget range was nothing to write home about, actualy it was so far the worse place we sayed at. we toured the island by foot and ventured to long beach were
Hat Kamala
Hat means beach i stayed at last year, they were booked up for a week. but we hung around there. we only went back to our accomodation to sleep. The island was completly full. we only stayed long enough to do a 1/2 day snorkling tour to monkey beach and maya bay (where THE BEACH was filmed).
We departed the next day to Ko Lanta, this time we rented a scooter as soon as we got off the ferry so we can find our bungalow in paradise. After many beaches and many islands , we found our bungalow on the beach, well maybe not right on it, about 50 meters from it at Klong Dao Beach resort.Since we already had the bike for the day we still toured the island of about 32 klm long and 8 klm at its widest point, with jungle covered hills. We spotted at least 10 beautifull sand covered beaches, we stopped for a swim at Bamboo beach at the tip of the island, very secluded , we were the only ones there. The village of Saladan is where the pier is and where most of the action is, we had a cheap local thai diner there
goofy sean
if you can believe it before returning to our bungalow, where we spent most of the rest of our time on ko lanta, sunbathing, swimming, reading, eating, and finally just relaxing. We decided to take a 4 island tour, snorkling at two islands ,very nice 4 course lunch on a beach and the fascinating emerald cave. A swim through a 80 meter long cave out to the inner part of the island were it seems as though you are inside a volcano.Open blue ski and cliffs on all 4 sides about 200 ft high, and of course a beach.Pirates used to hide there treasures in there it is so well hidden.
The next day we move on to krabi usually used as a jumping point off for the surronding islands. we stayed there 2 nights, one of the days was spent going to rai leh beach, where you can stare a limestone cliff while floating on your back in the turquoise water. At the end of the beach is Tham phra nang (princess cave) I took a picture of the description so i wouldn't have to re-type it, its quite unique.
The week end night market was so far the best one yet, sean
enjoyed the picking at difference food stalls, he had some sort of rice omellete, some deep fried stuff including deep fried ice cream and believe it or not a donair, it was to die for, i also had a corn pancake. we were quite full.
