Hi Everyone!! Sorry we've been abit slack on the blog, sunbathing has taken priority!
So, we flew from Chiang Mai to Phuket some time last week just for the night before heading to Koh Phi Phi for Xmas but had an interesting time while we were there! Found an irish pub to stay at for the night and as there was not much else to do in the area decided to spend our time having a few drinks! Lauren soon realised half way during the the vodka fuelled afternoon that she had run out of baccy so asked the owner of the bar who was from Manchester where was the best place to buy some as couldnt find it anywhere. He decided that we would never find the shop as it was too far way and the only way to get some was if he went himself and so left us in charge of the bar, in which we took full advantage of this by making ourselves a nice strong drink!
Next morning was not enjoyable, after a hot sleepless night woke up with a hangover and had to get the ferry over to Phi Phi. The island was
stunning!! However, we described the vibe as 'lads on tour' as it was full of rowdy boys with their buckets of alcohol!! Spent xmas eve on the beach with most of the afternoon spent sunbathing or having a dip in the sea to cool off until we watched the storm clouds come over and the heavens opened - we quickly retreated back to our room, but the rain didnt last for long! Our hostel was located a few mintues away from the bars up in the hills, it was so peaceful and totally different to everywhere we have been before that. Had some christmas eve drinks that night to celebrate and found the perfect bar - infront/on us we had the sea, behind us a guy was singing xmas songs on his guitar, on our right an amazing fire show, on our left fireworks, on the sand next to us a sheesha and a cocktail in our hands...perfect! Christmas was spent once again sunbathing and hiking to the viewpoint to watch the sunset. It was the hottest experience of our lives, walking up 200m in the boiling heat!! but the view was completely worth it! Then went back to the
beach for a few mojioto's, the perfect way to spend christmas. Spent the rest of the trip on the beach and took a long boat out on a snorkelling tour around the island.
Went to book the boat back to Krabi, but ended up going to Koh Lanta for New Year instead. We stayed in a bamboo hut right next to a stunning beach, you had to see the hut to beleive it!! It was there we encountered our first cockroach! It was like we were in the middle of the jungle, with alot of mosquioto's and monkeys right outside our door. New year was amazing, we headed down to the beach where they had set up a bar right on the sea front, and watched the local 'Why Not' band play old school music with a thai twist! We sat and had many cocktails and as everyone started to get drunk everyone was up and dancing. At midnight there was a huge firework display and everyone was setting off fire laterns, such a beautiful site and the perfect way to spend new year. After another drink it was decided a 2am dip in the sea would be a
great way to end the night and it really was. It was a painful 6am start the next day though as we were heading to Krabi to start our journey to Singapore. Took a while to get to the port to catch the boat in the back of a van filled with 16 people and all the luggage, not great with a hangover! It had been pouring down all morning, and then had to attempt to walk down a very wet, very steep ramp with our very heavy rucksacks on - was a expereince, but we managed it and fell asleep the whole boat ride.
Not alot in Krabi so spent the afternoon in bed sleeping off the hangover, only venturing out to get some food. Had an early night as we were rewarding ourselves with another 6am start to Hat Yai!
So, today turned out to be rather chaotic one, waited in the pouring rain at 6.30am for our transport only for it to finally turn up at 7.15, which then took us to the minivan to have to wait yet again before finally get on our way. 15 people squashed into the van with all the
luggage for a 5hour journey, was painless enough but no-one spoke a word of english! So when we got dropped off in the middle of nowhere, we were rather confused, but made it to our hostel somehow in one piece! When we arrived found out the train lines had been flooded, so now having to get a 15 hour coach trip to Singapore tomorrow lunchtime. We could of just stayed in Krabi and saved ourselves some time and money as could of just got the coach from there, but its all part of the adventure we guess!! And we finally get our first lie in, in what seems like forever as the bus doesnt leave till 12!! Woo
We hope you all had a great christmas and a happy new year.
Love to you all! xxx
