We both woke up a little hurting this morning. Last night we went out to a widely advertised reggae party. Some girls from England joined our table and we got talking and drinking, which led to dancing and meeting some other guys from Calgary.
I've mentioned a few times now that we are really cheap when it comes to buying things. Some of you might ask how cheap?.. well let me tell ya! It seems like everyone has checked out of our dorm room except for us. There was a pair of pants laying beside the garbage can, so Tris tried them on and they fit. FREE PANTS! You can imagine how excited we were!
We spent the first part of the morning at tour agencies booking transportation. Tomorrow we head to Koh Jum, a small island. We also wanted to get a train ticket back to Bangkok but the lady we were dealing with doesn't do train bookings so she recommended us to her friends shop. We went there and the air con train was full for the night we want to leave, but there was 2 fan top bunk sleepers on a slow train. She mentioned to
us there is a VIP bus with sleeper chairs that goes to Bangkok so she called that company and its fully booked too. So we went back to the original plan and bought the fan top bunk train tickets. We could've waited because another bus would probably be available, but since we are going island hopping we didn't want to take the chance of not getting back to Bangkok in time as we leave from Bangkok to get to Chiang Mai.
The English girls said they took a boat from the pier yesterday for 300 baht an hour and it was really cool, so we thought we'd check it out. We went down to the pier and paid 400 baht ( I know I know... but he wanted to charge us more and we said no way, and he said he would charge us 300 IF we'd wait for others to come. But we wanted to boat to ourself.) The river side is filled with trees. The roots are all tangled and interwined trying to reach the water. Its pretty neat looking. Our first stop was at a cave. The boat driver told us to get out and go
up the stairs. Tris and I expected something small and dinky - but when we reached the top of hte stairs both our jaws dropped and said " holy shit." It was REALLY cool. I'll let the photos do the rest. We would've loved to stay longer then we did and explore but we only had the boat for an hour. After he took us to a fish farm. They feed the fish dead fish to get them to come up to the top for us to see. We saw a lot of snappers, and these other ones that were huge. They weighed 150 lbs. My favorite was the puffer fish. He'd take it out of the water and it would make a funny noise like it was trying not to choke and then it would be a big spiky ball. He let us hold it and take photos. The boat driver was eating when we finished looking at the fish so we went and walked around the village. It was pretty poor looking. After he took us back to the pier.
We walked around Krabi for a bit aimlessly and didn't really find much. It's stinking hot out
too. We jumped into a truck and went to Tesco Lotus for lunch. Tesco is like a large superstore but there is also a bunch of other shops in the same building, and a movie theatre. We picked up some snacks to take with us to the island tomorrow.
We are both pretty exhausted. Tris is having a snooze while I write this. There is still no one in our dorm room other then the 2 of us. We walked by a market being set up earlier, and a stage so we are going to head there for dinner.
Later
The night market was pretty cool. Its really aimed at bringing Thai families together for the evening. The kids were running around, adults were sitting, eating, drinking and shopping at the stalls. There was a big stage with people singing kareoke. Everything is really cheap at the markets. We ate dinner for under $6.
