Koh Nangyuan
This small island, Koh Nangyuan, is off the northwest end of Koh Tao. It was the last stop of the snorkling tour. You can see its actually two islands connected by a beach. Hello everybody,
I spent two nights total at High Life in Ko Pha Ngah and think I should have given myself a third. The place was just stunning in every way. After writing my last post I rented a scooter from a rental place at the start of the driveway for High Life. The polite man renting it to me had obvious worries that after I told him I'd never rode one before. His worries likely spiked as I drove off in a shaky weaving pattern up the driveway to head to the northern beaches. Fortunately I got the hang of the scooter after only a few minutes of driving. Other than an early moment of forgetting that Thais drive on the left had side, which resulted in a slow game of a chicken with an oncoming truck, I sped around the north of the island with ease. When I reached the north beach I went swimming for about twenty minutes. Western looking people where gathering under a tree where a Thai was huddling them together. A long boat was waitig directly in front of them in the water so I figured they must be taking a boat taxi to another

This was the best swimming area at Nangyuan. beach. Bottle beach (supposed to be good) to was one beach over to the east but was accessible on land only through a forty minute drive from the beach I was at. The Thai man confirmed they were boating to Bottle beach and it was just 100 baht. I joined the group. The beach was clear, more secluded than most and surrounded by lush green hills. For an hour and a half I had swam and walked around then taxied back to the beach. A quick scooter ride later and I was back at High Life ready to eat dinner.
The table I ate my dinner at in High Life was next to the Scottish couple I met at the Half Moon party a few nights before. The three of us talked for about an hour while we ate. The guy, Ollie, and I agreed a shark bite scar would be a great thing to show off at parties and shooting huge guns in Cambodia will leave us properly prepared for any future zombie attack. They told me many of the guests at High Life were going down to a bar on the beach later in the night to

This was the hill I took the first picture from at Koh Nangyuan. watch the Euro Finals which started at 1:45 in the morning. I told them I'd meet them there.
When I arrived at the bar at midnight I saw four English guys from High Life who were drunk off buckets of cocktail drinks (drinks in buckets are popular here). A group of Danes and couple other people were all the patrons. The bartenders were three easy going, Rastafarian looking Thais. The small bar really was built right on the beach and it had a large projector showing the sports channel. The Scotts Ollie and Kate came by shortly after and I was told by everybody that no one roots for Germany as their soccer team is universaly hated throughout Europe. We were all pleased when Spain cinched the game after three in the morning. I was in bed by four.
Sadly, I had to wake up at 8:30 to catch the taxi to the pier. The even smaller island of Ko Tao was next. After a quick ferry ride later, I grabbed a taxi off the Ko Tao pier to the main beach and got a nice bungalow for the exorbantly expensive 600 Baht, nearly twenty dollars. A few

I could have gotten a similar one as they did for 400 but mine is right on the beach and overlooks a great sunset. The rest of the afternoon was spent swimming. At night I went to the incredible Lotus Bar where fire dancers perform amid horribly bad music. Its odd watching someone throw a staff with fire on both ends twenty feet in the air, catch it behind his back then twirl it at imperceptible speeds around his body and through his legs all while a techno version of a Grease song is playing. Whatever though, it was impressive.
When I woke up I went to a travel agency building to get picked up for a snorkling tour I set up the night before. About twenty others and I got fitted for gear quickly then set around the island stopping at about three great sites. The tour ended at a smaller island just north of Ko Tao. I climbed to the top of the hill there and was able to revive my camara for two pictures before it died again.
After I returned back to my bungalow at about four I attempted to take a nap but couldn't due to my horrendous sunburn. I've been using sunblock excessively for the last three days but wasn't as diligent during my first two. I would rate this burn problem as "significant". On the spectrum from pale skin to horrible sunburn, the majority of my body is a nice bronze. My shoulders and upper back though are off the "sunburn" spectrum and have now fallen into the "leprosy" spectrum as my skin is literally pealing off me. Note to self, use more sunblock.
There was storm to the north of the island last night which kept most of the inhabitants inside their huts though we missed most of it. The thunder and lightning was enough. So far today I've been lounging around (with shirt always on) and am planning on continuing my lack of any action. Likely tomorrow I'll take an overnight ferry to Bangkok to then start my way to Cambodia. Who knows though, strict plans aren't really my thing.
