KO PHA NGANKO PHA NGANKO PHA NGAN

Ko Mah beach
Hi everyone. When we were last in touch we were preparing to go Ko Pha Ngan for a day trip. And what a worthwhile trip it was. We met Sian and Mike earlyish and got a ferry over to Ko Pha Ngan, which took about an hour - you can get a speed boat for four times the price which takes just twenty minutes.

What a lovely unspoilt (compared to Ko Samui anyway) island it is. The main beach at the ferry terminal blew us away. We were tempted to delay our departure from here and book up for a week or so, but decided that we probably needed a change from the beach bumming around if only for a couple of weeks. We had a trip around the island and saw some wonderful sites, beaches, mountains etc. We spent a couple of hours on one of the beaches, Koh Ma, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This is the island where they have the famous Full Moon parties, which are basically 24 hour raves on the beaches. Being the sedate people that we are we have avoided them whilst we have been here. I am sure that Ken's son Stuart and

his girlfriend Carly may not be so reticent when they get here! On our return we showed Sian and Mike round our 'locals' ending up relatively refreshed! You will never guess that we spent the next day relaxing by the poolside!

Friday was relatively quiet, although Ken did manage to find himself at the poolside bar until gone two in the morning. Enough said!

On Saturday following a quiet day we again went to the Harbour Cafe for another BBQ. Another great night was had by all - we made a few more friends, heard a few new jokes. It must have been a good night because Sian and Mike cannot remember anything about how they got back to their hotel.

Since then we have been just relaxing by the poolside and enjoying the local eateries and bars in the evenings. Today is the first day that we have had rain for a few weeks - hence this update.

After posting this we are going to Chaweng which is apparently the 'Blackpool' of the island. Tomorrow we are going back to Bo Phut where with a bit of luck we hope to celebrate a Burns Night

in the quiz pub. Thursday is our last day on Ko Samui, so we are visiting all the friends we have made, to say our goodbyes and on Friday we fly off to Chiang Mia via Bangkok.

This is very much the cultural part of our trip to Thailand and we look forward to sending you updates and some (hopefully) fantastic pictures from there. Take care everyone.
