CHONG MON
The beach Nearly another week has gone past since our last diary entry and life here has been the same old mixture of great relaxing on the beach or by the poolside and enjoying the rich cultural miasma that is the night life here on Ko Samui.
We eventually moved from our not-so-great-but-expensive bungalow to a lot-cheaper-more to do-facility one about a mile futher along the road. One of the main benefits (apart from the cheapness) is that it is a five metre walk from our front door to the pool, where we have to admit we have spent quite a bit of time recovering, I mean, relaxing during the daytime.
The resort is split in two by the main road. On our first day there, we went over to 'the posh, or dearer' side to see what we were missing out on. Not a lot, really. As we were walking along between the restaurant and the beach, we saw this poor bloke who was sunburnt almost to a cinder - lobster red and bright pink nose. As we apprached he looked at us and sat up in his beach chair - 'Is that you Ken?' It was only Rob the
SUNSET
At Mike's Harbour cafe joiner from Brackley who used to frequent the Six Bells regularly a couple of years ago. He, Dave Haugh, Bill and I went to see a Dylan concert together as well as he and I going to see Jackson Browne in London. Small world, right enough. He intends to pop in to the Sixes soon after he gets back home in a week or so's time.
Being in a new location tempted us to seek out new drinking and eating territory. One wine bar we found has the most stunning spot for viewing the sunset. On our first evening there we were welcomed handsomely by the South African owner - maybe he had heard about us on the grapevine (wine bar/grapevine, gettit - Oh never mind.) The upshot was that he invited us to a BBQ at the same place the following night, with the promise of flowing wine, oysters, tiger prawns, New Zealand steaks and much, much more. Despite our shy, retiring nature we accepted his invitation. Yet another bad move! To get the full benefit of the evening we obviously had to be there to see the sunset at 5.30, and celebrate the same with a bottle
US AGAIN
At Mike's Harbour cafe - Friday! of fine Chilean wine. What a wonderful evening we had. Midway through the evening Mike, the owner, brought a friend of his over to introduce him to us. Before Mike could open his mouth the chap said, 'Hi Linda, hi ken how are you both doing?' He was one of the Dutch chaps who we had helped at the quiz the previous Wednesday. He and his wife joined us and helped to make a great night even greater. The wine flowed, the food was out of this world, we were introduced to a way of eating oysters which involved drinking shots of neat vodka, the music played, dancing ensued - yes, just, another boring old night on Koh Samui.
We were invited out by Mike for a boat trip round the nearby islands the next day, which in our relaxed state we accepted. In the cold light of dawn (well 1 o'clock, the following afternoon) we decided that it was not the best idea in the world, so a rain check was given.
Unfortunately Linda decided that Sunday was a good day to slip on the tons of sand that litter the roadside here and ended up with
KEN
At Mike's Harbour cafe - Saturday! a badly grazed knee, which has kept us fairly quiet - until last night!
Old friends of Linda's, Sian and Mike, arrived in Koh Samui on Monday and are staying at a very posh resort about a couple of miles away. We spent Tuesday afternoon with them on the beach in Chong Mon and arranged to meet up last night to celebrate Sian's birthday. And what a celebration it was. Mike had spared nothing to ensure that Sian (and us) had a truly memorable night. Champagne in their own roomside pool; the best table in the poolside restaurant; a wonderful evening of food and drink, plus an exhibition of Thai dancing - Mike didn't arrange the dancing, that was happening anyway. Off course we are connoiseurs (OK you try and spell it with out a spellchecker) of Thai dancing! We ended up at the bar where we also met a nice couple from near Chester, which ended off a really great night.
Mike and Sian, I know that you won't read this until you return from your holiday but thank you very very much for a great evening.
Which brings us very much up to date. A
DRINKING IN THE POOL

We hope this finds you all well, and we look forward to hearing from you either here on our comments box or via e-mail at our e-mail addresses.
