Tropical Paradise (mostly)... Ko Samui
After one of our longest journeys ever..by train, bus and boat, we finally arrived at our first island destination..Ko Samui! Our lovely accomodation was situated on Silver Beach, just between Chaweng and Lamai beaches. It was probably one of the most beautiful beaches either of us had ever been to. However, this island was also deadly...stu in particular got injured, firstly by slipping on a leaf while we were rock climbing in flip flops (and getting his leg, foot and hand 'lacerated'), then by the razor sharp coral! Oscar also lost a little chunk of toe to the evil coral. Our room was also a little weird at night..due to scuttling and screeching in our ceiling and wall cavities.. :s eeek!!
We met lots of interesting people during our stay..mostly from Holland and Belgium, and our friendly porter who took a liking to Alchins face!! Food was amazing, our best yet was white snapper at a small local restaurant which we enjoyed on numerous occasions.
We splashed out on a boat tour incl. snorkeling and kayaking, to the marine national park..1700B each!! It was a good day, and we got to meet lots of
people. The rest of our time was spent lazing on the beach, drinking and playing frisbee...NICE! After an amazing 4 night stay here, we left for Ko Pha Ngan...hopeful for some good accomodation, and a similarly great time :) Ko Pha Ngan
We got dropped off by a random taxi dude @ a hotel with an extremely similar name to ours... Lucky for us as we thought it looked the pitts!! The friendly staff then called our "hotel" and a strange man offering us drugs took us up a dirt track to the place we had paid for... We arrived and immediately realised where we were... a wooden shed on the side of a mountain. This involved, a freezing shower, gaping holes in the floor and walls, ants everywhere and... BROWN water!!
The first night we trekked it into town and found the black moon party... :D it was a mass of neon lights, paper shapes and drunken revellers?! hmmm... many beers later we got into the crazy techno and partied to the early hours! We somehow bumped into everyone that we had met in thailand so far, which was nice!
The following day we
had an emotional day on the beach... Our frisbee went missing... this was our pride and joy, a much loved item from Great old Britania. :( We also looked into renting a quad bike for the following day :) 700B was the cheapest we found?! We also had a magnificent local meal. Oscar had a lovely prawn soup, and stu had something else!
We woke early the following morning to get the quad. We then bombed it over to the other side of the island where we stopped off for lunch. Oscar proceeded to be sick on the picturesque beach whilst Stu enjoyed a beef curry! YUM!
Stuart then dropped Oscar home and took the quad out for the day whilst oscar died in the hot shed all alone :( Sob sob... Stu then arrived back 6 hours later after visiting waterfalls and deserted beaches, after staying in the room for 10 mins and bringing oscar guava juice (he doesn't even like it!)..he went out again for a meal and drinks. 5 hours later..Stu returned, pissed.
The next morning we awoke at 5am for our journey to Ko Phi Phi!! Ko Phi Phi
another gruelling journey..car, ferry, coach, bus, ferry, foot..we arrived! On the boat we bumped into the Germans we had previously met in Chaing Mai, and the Belgians from Silver Beach! Ko Phi Phi has no cars, so we walked to our new accomodation...the BEAUTIFUL P.P. Casita :) Swimming pool and air-con..we were in heaven! That night we went drinking with the Belgians..Oscar attempted..but was still too ill and went to bed early :(
The next day we hired a 2 man kayak and set sail for Monkey beach. To our suprise..there were monkeys!!! We got excited and took many a picture. We went snorkelling and saw a large array or fish. After a while two fellow kayakers from Chicago arrived..the monkeys proceded to steal their food...after we had watched this, we decided to help..HEROES!! We met two further Americans on another random beach..one of which is a pilot for Google Earth! We had an early night because Stu ate too much.
The next day we took it easy by the beach and pool..after an amazing full english...YUM! That night, we hit the town..and partayed!
Tomorrow we leave for Phuket..2 nights, then Bangkok via plane (Thai Airways :s)
for 2 nights..then.....AUSTRALIA!!!! :D
Missing everyone back home and the dismal English weather...peace out..MUCH love
Oscar and Stu ;) X
