The climb was worth it!
The view was cool and we spent a great amount of time admiring it as we recovered from the trek! Arrived after another crap ferry journey. Ferry was packed and we had to sit at the back outside with our bags. Ferry was fast and created a lot of spray, so we got soaked! When we arrived we were told the island was full so it was a mad rush to find somewhere to stay. Accommodation is quite expensive in Phi Phi but managed to find and ok central guesthouse for 1500 Baht a night. We immediately dumped our stuff and went to explore. Phi Phi is cool! Most of the island is uninhabited mountains so everything is built between two beautiful beaches. No cars or mopeds! As everything is in walking distance.
Chilled out on the beach for a bit and then headed up the view point. We had to climb loads of steps in the mid day heat and we both nearly collapsed! Several times! Views were so worth the pain though as we could see the whole island. Headed out that evening to watch a fire show! WOW! So cool watching them dance with fire poi to prodigy and hard trance tunes - must learn to do this!! Jo and I then treated ourselves to a bucket or
The scary Long Tail boat trip
We saw some amazing views though and would definately recommend this was the best way to do this tour! 3 and the evening got messy 😱 Jo was drunk after 4 sips and I attempted to have a boogie while Jo chatted to a bunch of crazy Mexicans! Crawled back to room via a pancake stall. (Jo has lived on banana pancakes and banana milkshakes so far, and I’m concerned she may turn into a monkey soon!). Got back to guest house to find a big fat old drunken naked guy in the corridor! We found this hilarious in our drunken state as we climbed over him to get to our room. I spent the next hour puking! Which Jo also found hilarious!
Next day was a write off so we booked the following day long tail boat trip. Went to the Reggae bar to watch some more Thai boxing and bumped into the Irish guys we originally had met in Bangkok and had spent time with at the Full Moon party! We caught up over a few painful beers! Got up early (11am) the next day for our trip. Went snorkelling at Shark point, but unfortunately we saw no sharkys, jo was well dissapointed! We then headed off into open water in our little wooden boat to Bamboo
The BEACH!
I'm Leo and Jo's that french bird that no ones knows! See the resemblence! island. Again we all got soaked as the spray came over the sides and our guide was scooping out the water from the boat with a paint can. (We had an instant flash back to a previous trip on the San Blas islands off Columbia.) Finally reached the islands and had a lunch consisting of just rice and we all chilled on the beach for a few hours. We then headed off to Monkey beach but after 10mins the boat engine broke and we were all a little concerned as the guide got out his spanners to attempt a mid ocean fix. 15mins later we were back on route! PHEW! Monkey beach was cool as loads of wild monkeys everywhere who were so used to human contact they would come and sit right next to you. Next stop was Phi Phi Lay, where The Beach was filmed. Oh My God! The open water journey got so much worse and the boat was rocking in the waves and water was flooding in. All the girls on the trip were screaming, apart from Jo! The guide was laughing his head off at this point. Phi Phi Lay was so worth the drenching
I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter!
Firedancing show to Prodigy and Hard trance tracks was amazing! as it consists of a beautiful beach surrounded by cliffs and jungle. I had a game of beach footy with the Thai tour guides! We reluctantly got back in the long tail boat for the dreaded journey back. We were all very relieved to make it back alive! 😊
We headed out that night for another crazy one and bumped into the northern guys we met in Samui. Promptly got them onto the buckets and then it all got messy! Again!
We all dared Will to down his bucket for 10 baht each, he realised this amounted to 50 pence so refused! We then just bet that he couldn’t, so he did. This is where it all went crazy, as Will then bet Neil that if he downed his bucket he would himself get in the ring to fight some Kiwi hard nut. Neil promptly downed his bucket and Will put on his gloves. This was the funniest thing we have seen so far. Will was playing to the crowd but was secretly bricking it. He put on a real good show and floored the kiwi in the first round. He managed to withstand all 3 rounds and rejoiced in
Will and the Kiwi after 3 rounds!
This was so funny and made a wicked eve! It all got messy at this point! his moment of glory! Caught up with Aussie guys and after many buckets we all ended up in the ring thinking that we could all Thai box but it turned into more of a wrestling mess about and I got hurt and jarred my shoulder! But did not realise til the following day 😞 It was a great night though and one we will remember for a long time.
The next day was another write off and eventually got up and dressed and met up with some guys from the boat trip, watched a bit of footy and then back to the Reggae bar for some more Thai boxing, over some more painful beers. A western girl volunteered and ended up fighting a local Thai girl. It was lethal as both were going full on and the ref tried to get in the middle to break it up and got kneed in the balls and ended up rolling around the floor as the girls continued to beat the crap out of each other! It was all very amusing.
Got the 2.30pm ferry back to Patong the following day with the Irish guys and was a good journey as it was not to busy. Next update - Patong, Round 2….ding ding!
