The Best sunset we have ever seen
This has not been edited in any way it really was like this We are killing two birds with one stone on this one as we have so much to catch up on and people keep emailing u to update the travelblog so here we go.
We regrettably left Kata and got on a bus for another bum numbing trip which consisted of a ferry, mini-bus, then Tuk-Tuk, then a larger bus and finally back onto another ferry arriving at our destination 12 hrs later we have to admit we are getting use to these “small” trips now. We managed to get cheap accommodation for Ko Pha Ngan but there was one small problem it was half way up a mountain and it was not a easy straight forward walk either and their lifts didn’t work all the time either in fact the first time Charlies one broke down. But it was an amazing view from the top. Now one thing we should mention is that we had an on suit bath room which consisted of 6 breeze blocks for the floor brown running water, no toilet seat ad a bucket to flush it. On the other hand we had a friendly red gecko lizard to keep us company. On the way to
Half the walk to our Bungelow
This picture does not really show how steep it is and the steps get to gravel by the time you reach the top. the Guest House we got friendly with an American called Matt and a German guy called sewal so the first night we headed to get some food and we went to the beach for those of you who don’t know they have buckets where you can drink from it contains a spirit, coke and red bull and you do get a little bit drunk off them… well Charlie did. One the first night it took him 3 quarters of an hour just to walk back a ten minute walk. He fell over and ended up crawling up the hill.
Most of our time leading up to New Year was just lounging around and have a few drinks and going for food. On new years eve we booked a trip where you are taken all the way around the island on a long tail boat they take you off to a waterfall which was nowhere as good as the waterfalls in Malaysia and the water was dirty as well. We were taken off to go snorkeling the visibility was ok and we got to see a lot of fish and coral while swimming. The beach in the north bottle beach
is a lot different to the beach in Haad Rin It was very quite and peaceful and was quite beautiful with a great sand bar leading out to an island off the coast. At the end of the tour the guide handed around buckets (Whiskey and coke) and Charlie found it so hard to resist and drank one with a few people at the back of the boat as hardly anyone on the boat seemed to be drinking.
From here we heading back to the beach to celebrate New Year we met up with Matt and Sewal. Owen was not drinking as he had not been well that day. Here is where the fun started after his 4th bucket he was well oiled and we had lost him Owen was worried as the last thing you want is for him to missing on new years eve so we wandered around looking for him and found him a little bit worse for ware. He was mumbling and slurring his works telling Owen how much he loved him and how much he was enjoying traveling. He was convinced he was not drunk and was perfectly fine while he was saying this
The view from our Bungelow
This shows the Haad Rin beach which houses the new years eve and full moon parties Owen was holding on to his T-Shirt Charlie had a bottler of beer in his hand and wanted to prove he was still ok so Owen let go of his T-Shirt and he fell on his back and lost half his beer it took Owen 4 times to convince him that he might have been a little bit drunk. After looking after Charlie for a little while Owen took Charlie over to the fire dancing place and Owen was trying to keep him occupied. However when they put a large firework on the floor about 6 ft away from us Charlie went to grab it and Owen had to drag him away. We also went to a chicken place where Owen fed Charlie yes literally fed Charlie as he was circumnavigating the roll as he could not focus let alone open his eyes. To keep a long story short after three Hours of looking after Charlie and trying to get him back to the guest house we kind of had a bit of a row and parted ways. Owen was woken up at 7.30 am after Charlie kicks the door open and says good morning.
The next day Owen
Our on Suite
This is how we found the toilet when we got there. That water stays the same color day in day out. was woken up by Charlie kicking him in the face and then punching him in the stomach while Charlie was asleep (probably dreaming about lady boys chasing him or something). Charlie got up at 4pm after Owen woke him up and explained the previous night’s events. Charlie was amazed a he had a total black spot between 10.30 and 6am when he decided to go for a swim in the sea as the sun was rising for the New Year. We both laughed about the previous night and there were no hard feelings. But Owen will NEVER let him live it down as he has never seen anybody is that kind of state but was disappointed as Charlie was not ill enough. NOW one other thing to mention is Charlie came home without his money, flip flops t-shirt and to put it easily everything apart from his wet shorts.
After a day of recovery we decided not to stay for the full moon party as due to Charlie’s state and how busy it was we decided to give it a miss. We then headed to Ko Tao which is an island north we caught a ferry and made our
Beach on the south of Ko Toa
Another beach Charlie found on his moped as you can see Charlie fell in love with Ko Tao move across. We were quite happy as the driver dropped us of at a really nice guest house where the bungalow we stayed in was clean tidy, had clear water a proper toilet and a porch where we sat many a night putting the world to right. We spent most of our time at the restaurant reading and chilling out as our budget had take a bit of a dent from Ko Pan Ngan. Charlie decided to go out on his motorbike to explore the island and booked a dive the next day. He managed to find some of the worst roads where everyone else was driving trial bikes and he just poodled along on a scooter slipping and sliding between sand and potholes. Again the beaches here were amazing and we saw one of the most fantastic sunsets we have ever seen rich in reds and blues the picture is awesome. The next day Charlie did his dive 11 miles off the coast in some really choppy seas where he got soaked literally on the way out there; the visibility was ok but not good enough to get a full view underwater. He was really looking forward to seeing
The roads of Ko Toa
I wonder when this road was last resurfaced a whale shark but it was not meant to be. But he did see loads of fish and had a great time anyway.
The next day we left for Bangkok but we'll talk about that later
