In Ko Lanta we continued on our Harley wild hog adventures, muay thai fight nights and engagement celebrations!
Ko Lanta is a beautiful long island, and somewhat strangely the second home of the Danes and many other Scandinavians (Jake and Alexis felt right at home with their blonde locks). There are beautiful beaches all along the western shore and dense mangroves and traditional villages along the eastern shore. We took a great motorcycle tour the length of the island where we saw ancient Chinese shophouses in Old Lanta, toured some Sea Gypsy villages and then stumbled upon "same same but different bar" for the afternoon.
We also discovered that Ko Lanta rivals Bangkok's Muay Thai for entertainment. We took Alexis (poor Jake was suffering from Thai tummy) to a wonderful local Mauy Thai night. As we found out Muay Thai is referred to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", and these 6-year old master practitioners were giving it their all with strikes from their hands, shins, elbows, and knees.
Our Thai adventure was coming to an end with the newly engaged couple so we bid a sad final farewell at the Nirvana
bar where Alexis discovered a beer-tequila-lime concoction which was very popular among the 30-year-olds in the bar, along with the bartender who kept a steady diet of Thai- cover bands playing Bon Jovi, Metallica and Guns'N'Roses through the night.
Recommendations:
Huge doughy spring rolls at the aptly named "Thai Cuisine Restaurant" (all the food is amazing there)
Reggae Bar - if its still there - it was soon to be razed for another Scandinavian resort
Sunset Bar & Restaurant - amazing Thai Garlic/Pepper Chicken
Take a moped ride around this whole island - its quite beautiful in the remote areas
