We arrived at around 5am at the port town of Surat Thani. From the little we saw of it, there was nothing pleasant about the place and we were glad to be leaving immediately. We were met by a rep from the company we had used who then attempted to load 11 people into a pickup converted into a taxi with 2 benches and a frame with a roof along with our large packs. There was no escaping a soaking as this was the only road through the town

Nice. But not amazing. Lined with resorts filled with rich westerners. As a result you had to bargain for about half an hour everywhere you went to get a half decent price

Mon's cheeks were covered with talc which is part of the west festival thing... Meant to be good luck.

The building that looks like a temple is actually the restaurant and where the family live

All you need... Samsong is the local cheap rum! About £1.50 a bottle, Wicked!

When we arrived they offered us some beer and made us feel welcome
