I prefer these outfits to the parkas that I've been brought up with to associate with winter.

Christmas is acknowledged in Thailand even though its a Buddhist country. The Thais will
use any excuse to have fun and celebrate. And the commercial aspect isn't lost either.

January is a good weather month for hiking the hills around here. The group of hikers are
quite serious and can set a mean pace.

Thai food is great but western decadents can be indulged. Of course, this is what allows
you to not loose the look of affluence from back home.

Although Thai entertainment is top notch, western music is alive and well.
Very talented expat musicians jam all around the town to keep things in tune.

There was a small get together at Glen's. Unfortunately the photos didn't turn out. Look at last years: Click on

Most is described more aptly by the photos in this blog.

My First Hike in Chiang Mai area:
Jan 6, 2011, 35 people started from the Camp site below Doi Pui and hiked down
to Wat Suthep. We passed coffee plantations and relaxed at a coffee shop run by the
hilltribe of the area. see photos.

Extra: Things aren't always rosy over here.
From the Bangkok Post: Feb 10, 2011, A 23 year old New Zealand woman died from a viral infection
after eating at a food stall at the popular Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai. Like most tragedies over here, the
reporting is minimal especially internationally. It's not good for tourism.
Then it was discovered there were actually four deaths of people from this hotel. After police investigation it
there was no connection or ill-play involved.
