Bea and Sean did a little fruit shopping while walking around Chiang Mai Old Town.
Wow now that was a long flight. We left Kauai on the afternoon of Janurary 23 and spent the night in Oahu so we could catch the 8:30 AM China Air flight to Bangkok. China Air was pretty nice but we had stops in Narita (Japan) and Tapei (Taiwan) before arriving on the 1:30 AM in Bangkok (January 26). We decided to just hang at the new Bangkok Airport, Suvarnabumi, until the first morning flight at 6:30AM up to Chiang Mai. Needless to say, we were ready to drop into our beds at the Amari Rincome after our 35 hours of travel.

We got a few hours sleep and then met Sean for an afternoon lunch. Sean teaches English at the University in Chiang Mai. Mark and Diana, friends of Sean's that we had met on prior trips and who came and visited us in Kauai this Fall) also joined us for lunch. The Amari Rincome turned out to be an excellent choice as it is centrally located, near the University and just a kilometer or so from the Old Town. It's not the newest hotel but is quite comfortable with a lovely pool and garden.

We took it real easy over the weekend, recovering from the flight and visiting with Sean. We took a few walks around Old Town and did a bit of shopping.

McDonalds
Aloha Dear Friends, This is terrific. Be sure to check out McDonald's by the night market. I have a fun picture of greeting Ronald w/a true wai (sic). I'm so happy that someone who actually speaks the language is teaching english. We had very different experience with the english department at the university in Kanchanaburi. The only person who understood us was the director of the department. Looking forward to more of your adventures. See you here in Kona this summer. Rose
