** We did this blog back in December so no idea why it hasn't gone through...sorry!! **
Hello everyone!
Thought it was about time for us to update you on what we've been up to since Messy departed......and yes it does involve drinking!
We left Ao Nang on the 3rd and took a 14hr bus trip to Bangkok. The buses over here are actually really good, they are double decker jobs with full reclining seats and leg rests so the journey isn't too bad....well maybe it is.
We then spent a couple of days in Bangkok and again managed not to actually do anything whilst we were there, the fact that it was the Kings birthday didn't help matters as everwhere was ram packed......We've decided we don't like Bangkok!!
We travelled up to Chaing Mai on another over night bus journey a few days later and that is where we are now.
We arrived about 5am and were automatically taken to a guest house, which normally gets on your nerves becasue they tend to be really expensive and in the middle of no where but we were pleasantly suprised with this one so have stayed put ever since.
The first day
we were here we booked ourselves onto a 2 night/3 day trek which was brilliant apart from the fact that I bust my knee.....again on the first day so spent the following two days with one of the Thai trek guyides on the back of his motorbike being driven around. How we didn't plumit to our death on a number of occasions is beyond me as some of the tracks we were going along were no wider than the bike...I was briking it !! but Sun (The Thai guy) grew up in one of the mountain villages and has been riding bikes on the tracks and roads all his life so was probably the best person to be with.
We set off about 9.30am on the first day with our fellow trekers and went to a market to buy provisions to start off with and then went on to an elephant treking place which was brilliant. We were only there for an hour but still had a fab time. I rode on the elephants neck and Vic and one of the other guy's sat in the basket. You can buy sugar cane to feed them with along the way but
you soon realise thats its best not feed then to the elephants as you are riding them because they nearly swipe you off with there trunk!! After that we stopped of for lunch and then took about a 30minute drive to the national park where we started the trek. The first part was fairly straight forward then before too long the incline increased drastically but luckily before too long we arrived at a waterfall where we all went swimming which as you can imagine was fu*king freezing, Vic managed to go arse over tit as well.....it was very funny!
We then walked through to jungle/forest and at some points through areas that had no paths so god knows how the guys remember where they are going and no long after that I hd my little misshap......everyone was really good and one of the people treking with us managed to carry me on his back up out of the rice feild where I sat and waited with Sun (the thai guy that spent the 2 days driving me around) for my trusty steed to arrive. Everyone else had set back off again by then and I met up with them an
hour or so later at one of the local villages where we spent our first night.
Most of the night we spent sat round the fire playing drinking games and sampling Sun and Suk's home made moonshine brew....boy was it strong!!
Both guides were absolutly brilliant and we couldn't of asked for two more funnier and friendly guys if we'd tried, we all got on so well it was really sad when it came to an end.
The second day Vic and the others went off for a 6 hour trek (3 hours up and 3 hours down.......the bike thing was by far the better option in my opinion!)at about 10am whilst I had a bit of a lie in and set of at 10.30am, we stopped off for lunch and then went of to see Sun's sister and his nephew in one of the villages before meeting up with others about 4pm at our camp for the 2nd night. This camp was in the middle of no where and right next to a raging river which was our showering and washing facility for the night. The evening was again spent around the fire chatting and drinking but everyone was
pretty pooped from their walk so went to be before midnight.....unlike the previous night.
Following day we all set off at the same time and I met up with the others for lunch before we all went on bamboo rafts which was really good fun, unfortunatly for Vic though she was stuck with the invilid so couldn't capsize and ram into rocks like everyone else did but we still had fun. We got back about 4pm and spent the rest of the evening with our fellow trekers.
Since then we've just been chilling to be honest, I was going to go back down to the Islands to chill on the beach to let my knee recover whilst Vic stayed up here with some of the others but i've changed my mind so still up here for another few days to a week maybe....who knows, we are taking everyday as it comes at the moment and making no real plans which seems to be the best way.
Anyway......................I'll stop babbling now and let you all get back to your work.
Lots of Love Sam anc Vic
p.s. I've decided that I'm not coming home (only joking.....I think), I want
to stay in Thailand forever!!
