After a long day of travel, we arrived in Surat Thani, Thailand. We found a place to stay found some pad thai from a street vendor, washed it down with a beer and called it a night. Phew! Next day we boarded a bus, then boat, then songthaew (think bus/truck with seats in the pickup part) and arrived at our first beach destination.

We spent the next 5 nights at Treehouse Silent Bungalow on Mae Nam beach on Koh Samui. It was lovely, days spent roaming beaches, reading, swimming and sitting in the sun. What's not to like? Andrew went scuba diving while I stayed back and got a massage - life there was pretty good. We found a quiet, small get away on an island jam-packed with so many tourists and so much development. While this was Andrew's first time to Koh Samui, I had been there about 12 years prior and holy cow how a place can change and develop rapidly. Anyway we had a lovely time and it was great.

But... We were determined to find our version of beach paradise, the kind where you can sit on a stunning beach with white sand, self cater

a couple meals and eat local food for dinner. So we, again, had a very long day of travel. We took a taxi, plane, metro, bus, boat and songthaew and wouldn't you know it, we found what we were looking for!!!

So we spent 4 days getting into our sort of 'typical' tropical paradise routine... Beachfront room with balcony, wake up with the sunrise shining into our window, go for a run/walk, eat breakfast, beach/sun/read/swim, self-catered lunch (tuna, crackers, tomato, cucumber, onion), more beach, etc., sunset, dinner, sleep. Pretty awesome. Aside from a couple long walks to the main village to pick up some less over-priced provisions (water and beer), that's literally all we've done and it's been spectacular.

Long walk on an island, short ferry ride, hot bus ride, long walk in Bangkok - and we made it! Even though the walk to our guest house was about 3 miles in the Bangkok heat, there's just something about walking in this city that I love. Our goals for our time here (about 24 hours) are to eat our favorite street treats, walk and explore at least one neighborhood we've never explored. This afternoon we head to the airport for our 38 hour journey home. If all our flights are on time we will get to spend an afternoon in Hong Kong - nice way to break up the long trip home. This has been a great trip. Until next time.
