Well we have arrived safely at our final travel destination ... Bangkok. Oh it is such a wild, noisy, colourful, crazy city! The boys are certainly alert most of the time when we go out of the hotel. As a result ... we have not done a lot here so far.
We only arrived yesterday afternoon and after checking in to our room at the Aetas Bangkok Hotel (thankfully we have interconnecting rooms - which was not confirmed until check in) we decided to hitch a taxi ride to the tallest building in Thailand - Baiyoke Sky Tower.
We then went up a lift to about 320m above ground level (floor number 82) to a rotating view deck to see Bangkok from a bird's eye view. It was pretty amazing being that high ... the boys were not worried at all and we had to keep them back from the rails through fear they would actually climb up and fall! They were all a bit crazy ... a consequence of being pretty tired after a very busy time in Chiang Mai ... so it was probably our own fault!
We then had some fun a couple of levels
lower ... where it is set up for tourists to take some photos and enjoy the view from all angles of the tower. Then we enjoyed a quick drink at the "Sky Bar" before heading back down to ground level.
Getting a ride back to our hotel was interesting ... it reminded me of the part of Thailand I don't like... an experience we had not had on this trip until Bangkok. We asked a lot of Taxi drivers if they would drive us back "using Meter" rathern than for a set price (which is usually a lot higher than the true meter price) ... but we had so many just drive away saying no! How rude!! Anyway we ended up in a tuk tuk ... paying more than we should have ... just to get back to the hotel. It was a horrible trip ... we probably could have walked it faster!! The traffic was insane ... the boys were shocked at how we weaved in and out of the cars and buses to get moving forward. A good experience for them I guess as we had told them how crazy the drivers are over here ... and
they got a first hand experience at that!!!
We stopped at a local resturaunt just near the hotel for dinner ... the boys were exhausted! We had Blake and Dylan lying down on a bench seat on one side of the table whilst waiting for dinner! I thinke we put the last mouthful of food in our mouths and then left so the boys could get to bed.
Today we had a lazy morning ... then headed out about 11am. We took the skytrain to the MBK Centre. The skytrain is an easy and fast way to travel throughout bangkok ... much better than trying to rely on road movement! The MBK Centre is an enormous shopping hub ... full of everything and cheap! We had some fun ... although Dylan was not happy about walking ... so we borrowed a stroller from the information desk and pushed him around. He quite enjoyed that!
Back at the hotel now ... we have bought a bottle of wine and a couple of beers from a supermarket and they are in the fridge. Scott and I will sit quietly later and relax whilst enjoying a drink and some peace
and quiet.
Not sure of the plan tomorrow ... we might ditch the tourist sites in Bangkok for fear of losing one of the boys somewhere along the way. It is a hard slog when it is hot and the boys would prefer to swim in the pool here at the hotel. Might just make the final day a RELAXATION day before heading home on Friday.
Just heard Aussie news about Labour Party ... loks like we are returning home to chaos!
