I slept in my first night in Thailand and what did I find? A cochroach with wings! Thank goodness I was able to kill it before it decided to fly all around my room. I dont even have any food in here 😞 I am not fond of cochroaches, or any bugs for that matter!
My experience today is so much better than what I had last night. I can't say anything good about the weather. Apparently they only have 3 seasons here in Bangkok: hot, hotter, and hottest. I came in their hottest season and its a whopping 37 ÂșC (98 F) with humidity. Last week was 42 degrees, so at least its a few degrees cooler, although it doesn't feel like it.
Went on my way to see the Grand Palace and Wat Traimit. Absolutely gorgeous and amazing. The architecture was fantastic in itself, but the paintings on the wall, all done by hand, blew me away. I did a prayer and put some holy water over my head. It was scorching hot so I couldn't wait to get indoors to some air conditioning.
Following my little tourist sight-seeing, I decided it was time for an authentic
Thai massage. The place I went to was highly recommended and the girl did a great job. I paid 880 baht which included tip, so roughly $30 for 90 minutes. Not bad as it wasn't as cheap as I thought, but it was great nonetheless.
I then decided to take a taxi to check out MBK Center for a little more shopping and food. I didn't buy much as I know I have to lug it everywhere I go, so I basically had lunch there. Pad See Ew for 50 baht....or just under $2, now that's what I call a bargain! I was craving ice cream as I haven't had it in ages, and was lucky to find a gelato place in the Center to get my fix 😊
So, now that I did most of what I wanted to do, I was trying to figure out how to end my evening. Since I was in Thailand, I thought it would be appropriate to watch a muay thai fight. I got VIP ringside tickets to one of the more famous arenas: Ratchadamnoen Boxing Stadium. I watched 8 fights, which was quite an entertaining 3.5 hours. Blood was shed,
unconscious fighters, screaming men wanting to make bets, pictures with the boxer, what more could you ask for? Well, to put icing on the cake, I met a couple at the match named Doris and Rainer from Singapore who I got on really well with. We talked, laughed, exchanged info, and decided to head out to grab a late night dinner following the fight. My taxi driver took us to a seafood restaurant that he thought was good, but it was quite expensive. I believe we thought he was getting commission from the restaurant for taking us there, but it didn't matter. We were hungry and wanted food. We ordered Tom Yum Ka, Pineapple Fried Rice, and Deep Fried Fish. It was quite tasty. Following dinner, they wanted me to go to the strip club with them, being that they haven't been and wanted to check it out. I totally would've gone as I thought it would be safer to be surrounded amongst friends, but I have to wake up at 530am tomorrow so I can check out the Tiger Temple! So, I had to pass on this one. It's been a long night and I haven't slept, and probably
won't be catching up on sleep tonight either. Oh well. I made new friends and already, we were talking about plans to visit one another in LA and Singapore! 😊 Yay!
