1-Fight!1-Fight!
1-Fight!

One of the tallest Muay Thai fighter/ L'un des plus grands combattant de Muay Thai.
Hello.

From the 17th to the 23rd of March, Ayutthaya hosted the Muay Thai festival. So obviously I was there.

Muay Thai or boxe Thai is a quite violent sport but very entertaining to watch.

Before every matches, the participants, or at least those who are Thai, do a kind of dance called the Wai khru ram muay. This dance is more or less short depending on the contestant. If it's really well done, the fighter can earn some money as a reward. This dance is made to pay respect to the teacher, the other fighter and the gods. Traditional music is played during the matches, which add to the atmosphere and spectators add to the noise, by screaming at the fighters or at each other, because a lot of gambling take place around each bout.

Rules are different according to the country where it takes place, but basically, they use arms and legs to try to knock out the other fighter.

During this festival, I had the opportunity to see some demonstration, admire the art of tattoo (as a lot of fighter have tattoos). There were as well a big Wai Khru ceremony (this ceremony is common in Thailand to pay respect to the masters and the teacher) and a Buddhist ceremony.

The only thing I didn't like, was matches between kids. Some were as young as 6 or 7 years old, and they were fighting as adult. I tough it was way to young.

There were also some matches in Bangkok with professional. That was impressive. The only problem was, I think, the non objectivity of the judges (almost all Thai) against foreigners. I don't think only Thai people should have win almost all the matches... but maybe I'm wrong!

I really enjoy this festival. I didn't know anything about Muay Thai before: I don't say I'll start doing any fighting, but all the ceremonies around the matches, make of this sport a lot more than just a fight. This is definitely worth going there next year if you're around.

Bonjour.

Melissa
Hi everybody, My name is Melissa. I'm French, but I lived in England for 3 years, and I loved it, so in my head, I'm a bit English too! I want to travel since I'm a kid, and now that I'm 30, I decided that it was going to be now or never, so it will be now! So I'm on my way to the south east Asia and maybe more. I don't really have a plan, so I will let the wind decide to where I go! I love taking pictures (I would love live from that, but I'm not sure I'm good enough yet, but I'm practicing!), so there wi... full info
