Its good to be back in Thailand, in comparison to India everything is so clean and easy here. We are currently staying in my mates pad while he is in Manchester for the month (cheers Gaz!!) and have met up with other friends from back home Paul and Delarmi. We had a big first night which left us with a stinking hangover- the first of many!
The highlight so far is Sonkran, the Thai New Year. The Thai’s celebrate this by having an insane and often dangerous water fight which covers the majority of Bangkok for four days. The build up to Sonkran was eagerly anticipated and we went out and bought the biggest super soakers we could find.
One of the biggest areas for the water fight is on Koh San road, and we took a taxi and did a few ‘drive by shootings’ with the driver encouraging us to get the people on the bikes! The locals drive around in their pick up trucks with the back full of people armed with buckets of water and drench anybody who gets in range.
When we got out of the taxi we were immediately soaked in ice cold
water and covered in flour. But we got our own back; I particularly enjoyed soaking all the people on the buses, as they slowly moved through the hectic traffic! (Unfortunately for them the buses do not have windows!!) Later we thought that the passengers on the bus were fighting back, as we were getting soaked. However once we looked up, we saw that Delarmi had jumped on the bus as it was passing by and was getting us from inside… last laugh was on him mind you, as the bus driver locked the door and the passengers took aim and all ambushed him with their water guns and flour… amusing to say the least!
We also found a news reporter who was about to do a live broadcast showing the carnage on Koh San road, we waited and as soon as the broadcast begun we aimed and let rip our super soakers at her face, we did not make it on TV but the water from our guns certainly did!
The past couple of days have been great, I feel a bit like a big kid but its so much fun. It was fantastic to see all of
the locals get involved in the celebrations with such high spirit and having a good time.

Bangkok; this is a huge city that’s massively commercialized and geared towards the the ferang (foreign) tourists. We have met up with tonys mate paul and Delarmi. I reckon we would have left here to explore Thailand more if it wasn’t for thai new year coming up and the free accommodation that we have been generously provided by paul and gaz (whos currently in England for a wedding). This place is full of shopping malls, high rise buildings, women who are only interested in money and loads of lady boys(keith; don’t get too excited mate). The traffic is horrendous and its just another city to me but the promise of a full scale city water fight for new year is keeping us going.
New year; im so glad we stayed for this as I feel like a little kid again! We have bought the biggest super soakers we can find and have been in the middle of the biggest organized chaos I have ever been witness too. On kao san road, which is the main backpacker area there are literally
thousands of people soaking each other with water and covering everyone with flour. The buses and cars don’t get away with it either and the people in them get drenched if they are brave or stupid enough to keep there windows open. Motorbike riders do not have an easy time at new year!! This has been going on for two days straight now and promises to carry on for the next couple as well. Awesome!! Oh yeah, I nearly forgot. We went early on the first day and there wern’t many people up for it at this point. Just kids mainly. Well there was a lady boy walking past, so Delarmi found it funny to wet her and then run and hide so it looked like I had done it! She/he started having a massive go at me while I basically just laughed at her/him. At this point tony soaked her from behind and she/he proceeded to run after him down the street! Well funny!! Were going out for a few bevies and a game of pool now. Laters peeps

Bring out the water cannons
I was getting a bit worried about you boys, not having posted for so long. It's Easter Sunday here as I write, so don't OD on the cream eggs OK? From your snaps of Bangkok it looks as if it's just you three going round soaking people for jokes - I reckon you just made up this stuff about New Year to explain a super-soaker fuelled spree of vandalism! If the Thai's had those water cannons they have in Belgium/Holland (see Euro 2000) I reckon the three of you would have been blasted off the street for breach of the peace. Buzzed off the moustaches competition too. Thailand, it's your cheapness that's my weakness. Keep watching those bhats and pennies - Murphy.
