Its about half past six in the afternoon and we have just arrived at our first hostel, tired and sticky but happy that the journey has finally begun.
After the last week, where sudden realisation hit us that we had actually done buggar all to prepare for a year away (well i hadn't anyway) its been a nice suprise that all has gone relatively well.
The only problems we encountered were the fact that they had no veggie meal for yas on the plane (i swear we almost had to turn around in mid flight) then there was the fact that i went to speak to yasmin in her sleepy state about 5 hours into the flight and i got that brilliant vacant look that only yas can do (takes years of practise) and a little voice that said "who are you?" the little voice was yas by the way, not some stowaway midget, thought i better clear that up!
First thing that we noticed after landing was the immence heat that hit you as soon as you stepped out of the airport and onto the taxi rank.
like proper fiery yet wet heat that hits you in the face like an elephant in a rush.
Anyway, we got in the taxi, which we were pleased to see had air con and started on our journey to the hostel "lub d" (which was a journey with a capital J) although the sights were worth it.
We were trying our very best to make conversation with the taxi driver, wasn't going particularly well down to the fact that we know absolutely no thai and drive knew very little english.
It got to one of those akward silences when yas asked about the trouble in bangkok, to which mr taxi driver (really should have got a name- oh well from now on he can be dave) almost pulled off the famous yazzy confused face, so i said "you know all the riots involing the people wearing the red..." at that point i looked down and realised i was wearing a red t-shirt! oh how dave laughed, which was a relief.
So here we are, first day of our adventure and im feeling peckish... I'll pass you on to yas.
...OK just thought I'd put my 2 pennies worth in. So before we got here we did have several traumas. Jake got stopped by customs going through Heathrow because he had a deodorant more than 100ml so that was confiscated (naughty naughty) thhheeeen we had the slight matter that we don't have a visa for Thailand and being British you do get a 30day visa automatically but you need proof that you are leaving within the 30 days and did me and Jake have anything booked - no! So we had to pay extortinate rates at the airport for internet and several times it did not work and they were calling for us to go to our gate so that was one hell of a mad rush/ stress and we finally booked a flight from Phuket to Malaysia on 29th June 😊 I did realise thought that we still couldn't print it so I still pood my pants going through immigration the other side.
The flight was a dream, no turbulance and on time, comfortable yada yada but there was one baby that cried the whole friggin way and even more distressing they forgot my veggie meal!!! And excuse my naiivity but I was amazed by the follow my route thing on the plan which literally is a map which shows the plan and what countries you are going over as it happens. It was sooo cool, we flew over Poland and Hungary and Russia and then down over Pakistan (we assume you go up over Russia to avoid Iraq which probably isn't very safe) and then all over India and it was soo cool looking out the window as we came into land, kinda reminded me of spain with all the palm trees. Jake was amazed that whilst it's kinda like London all built up but with some slums there is just trees growing in the middle of Skyscrapers. Just quite random.
So our first attempt at bartering didn't go too well.. we basically just accepted the price he said which ended up being 500TB including the toll charge and the airport surcharge... don't know how bad we were ripped off but to be honest I just wanted to get to the hostel!
The hostel btw is LUSH! Got a flat screen TV, AC, our own toilet and shower and I don't know what I was worrying about the watering being hot for- I should worry about it being cold!!!
Anyways I kinda just rambled at the end so I'm gonna sign off!!! Don't know what the plan is for tomorrow, trying to get Jake interested about anything thats not the here and now is like pulling teeth.
