BANGKOK
Part of the Grand Palace We have finally arrived in Bangkok after a long 12 hour flight from London and as soon as we walk out of the airport terminal wow, we were hit with the heat and humidity of South East Asia! It is about 30 degrees and near 100% humidity (Which turned out isn’t hot at all. I happened to disagree with this, while standing soaked in my jeans and what had by this stage become a see through t-shirt. I know what you're thinking - is this Gemma writing this? Well I’m sorry, but it’s not. It’s Ste (now, there’s an image for you.)
We got settled into Shanti Lodge, a lovely traditional Thai guesthouse about a 15 minute walk from the Khao San Road and spent our first day getting our bearings. We caught up on a little sleep and nipped down to the Khao San Road for dinner, drinks and lots of wondering. On day two, we started to do a little sightseeing, we got a tuk-tuk around the city for a three hours (we bargained our trip for 40 baht (€1)) and for those of you who don’t know, a tuk-tuk is like a moped with a roof on

Building in Grand Palace it (or similar to my old ford fiesta)
We saw a load of sights like the Big Buddha, Lucky Buddha etc. (all the Buddha’s that our driver could take us to) we saw some things that you would never see at home, like a huge lizard on a riverbank, it must have been nearly six foot long. The traffic over here is insane, you feel like you are putting your life in the hands of the driver, but we haven’t seen a crash yet, so somehow it all seems to work. That night we decided to hit the Khao San Road again for a few drinks, and then got ourselves an auld tobacco bong for the evening. (Don’t worry, it was only apple flavoured tobacco, but good 'crack' all the same. Get it? Good crack? Ah forget it; my sense of humour is wasted on you people!!!)
We ticked a few other items of our list of what we wanted to see in Bangkok; we got lost in Chinatown (luckily for us I am an awesome ninja and Gemma could sing 'everybody was kung foo fighting, na na na na na na na na na

Reclining Buddha. (Check out how I can dislocate my neck - freaky). na', so we were ok). We brought a load of cheap stuff there (Not cheap stuff, we are not dressed in bin liners or anything like that, but we got bargain prices on a whole heap of stuff). We also travelled on the local slow boat river taxi down the Chao Phraya River which we really enjoyed. It was a great way to travel around Bangkok as opposed to being in a taxi stuck in traffic, we got the river taxi to the Grand Palace and Reclining Buddha, both of which were just amazing before heading back to Shanti Lodge to collect our gear before making our way to the central train station to catch our overnight train to Chang Mai in Northern Thailand.
